In a 33-minute span from the 7:10 mark of the second quarter until Appalachian took a 37-20 lead on by Bentlee Critcher’s 24-yard field goal with 4:10 to go in the ballgame, the Mountaineers outgained A-State, 400-43.
... Let that sink in for a moment...

Ark State couldn't do anything offensively until the end when we went into prevent mode. We completely shut down one of the best offenses in the Belt. Hopefully this builds the confidence of the team even more going into next week. ULL is a whole different animal

Great game now back to work. We need to do something about ST as that part of our game is going to hand us a loss at some point. That would be a shame with all the improvement we have seen in the rest of our game. It is also a shame we are destroying a very good punter. When we give that part of our game the attention it needs we will be conference champs. I am confident of that.

I hate prevent mode... gawd awful thing... you play to win at full throttle and not prevent.. PERIOD. Never liked it when my dad went in that mode back in the day with the tarholes... Much rather see a team win/lose giving it all and not "preventing"...
Did the Germans prevent when they bomb Pearl Harbor? NO!
Let's Get EM!

It has already handed us two losses.

as far as our ST coverage goes, i think it will improve next year once we add the rest of our players getting redshirts. it will give us more depth to work with. Satt said after the game yesterday that they've been trying to play some of the backups on ST to give our starters a breather, but they may look to switch that up
ST is where you can see the depth deficiencies the most if you take your starters out of that phase

Personally I didn't see a prevent mode - we fumbled inside the 10 and then they covered an on-side kick - it was a combination of their good plays and a couple of not so good on our part ---

Yes the fumble was unfortunate but I didn't like the keep everything in front of you zone coverage at the end of the game. I understand that we knew they would be passing but they weren't moving the ball on us when we were getting pressure and we struggle in the secondary when we don't pressure up front.

Well I would agree if a FG would have beaten us but it took a TD so yes at a point like that I say play prevent ---

I hate the prevent too, but even though it gives up big, easy plays, it keeps things in front and doesn't allow quick scores over the top. In other words, we're conceding a possible score, but you're going to use too much clock to score enough to close the gap. I did get a little nervous at the end last night, however.

Our special teams are terrible. They will get better next year. We need a little bit more depth which will improve with red-shirts and new recruits and we need a field-goal kicker. Our putter has gotten better and better at field-goal kicking but I would love to see us do something like go out and get one of the best JCo kickers in the nation.
I'm not sure Mark Ivey is going to be around next year as the special team's coach. I wouldn't bring him back. I don't know if Scatt. will let him go or figure out a away to add to the coaching staff. A good special team's coach is not hard to come by.
We could also use some bigger linemen. Most of our issues can be easily fixed with next year's recruiting class.

It is going to take more than players. This is not a new problem. The biggest part of this is coaching. I am not saying we have to get rid of Mark in fact much the opposite. What I am saying is we need someone else taking care of ST.

Ivey is the DL coach which has done well under his guidance. He is also a recruiter in Florida.

In case I was not clear on my opinion. We certainly don't want to lose him just realign ST duties to someone else.

Over/under on how many times someone uses the Animal House joke about the "Germans bombing Pearl Harbor" before we don't have someone who doesn't know it's a joke?
