Anxious to see who we might land that can save the program. Go Apps!

It is very scary how quiet this is. Not that we are supposed to be kept in the loop however we are at probably the biggest crossroads in ASU athletics history! The future of our athletics is at it's shakiest point ever and a wrong hire or delayed hire can have catastrophic effects! We need someone with back bone and that can make the hard decisions and we need them quick.

I had a short nightmare last night. I dreamed we focused on a politically correct hire.

You listen to the chancellor during the pre-game show? You might be closer to your dream than you think.

I did not hear it. What was said?

ANything short of a strong personality with a background in building funding, a ruthless competitor who can make the hard choices, will be the Death Knell to App State Athletics. She HAS to get this right.

That said I will support anyone who fits the above bill!

Actually I didn't. I was still playing with the ESPN3 thingy. I just suspect that when the BOG selects a politically correct hiring experiment as Chancellor, that person also considers experimenting with one themselves. However, I think she realizes what the backlash would be if she tried and failed. Let's hope she makes a good decision, not a PC nor accommodating one. Nothing says she can't do both, but the odds are against it. The talent pool is too small.

If she starts thinking outside the box and makes the wrong choice, can you say "INCOMING?"

Hoping and praying it's someone that has no ties to App.

But it'll probably be Rick Beasley

Doubt a new Chancellor in making the right decision. She professes to be into college football and sports, but you always wonder how much really.

What about Liberty's AD: Jeff Barber. He is a North Carolina native, ECU graduate, and has spent many years around the Carolinas, having worked at ECU, Furman, and USC prior to taking the job in Lynchburg. By all accounts his time in Lynchburg has been an uber-successful. He is a fantastic facilities guy, good with the fans, good with the media, and good at the all-important mission of fund raising. He's made some very nice hires/keeps in Lynchburg as well.

He is generally regarded as an AD on the rise and from a few things I heard he had a nice time in Boone on Saturday. I spoke with him in the press box a few years back, at our last home playoff game, when he was sitting on the FCS Selection Committee, and he told me how he loved our environs and raved about the AAC (this was as LU was finishing/had just finished their new PB/Suite structure if memory serves correct).

My only question is could we pry him back south, as in could we afford him. I obviously know of the issues so many have with LU but this guy is an up-and-comer, young, energetic, and bold...which to me sounds like the formula we need to follow to make this transition complete.

Personally, I would not mind that...maybe we could get their OC too. Wonder if we could swing getting him.

BTW, a disclaimer: my thought of Barber as a possible AD candidate had absolutely NOTHING to do with the game on Saturday, has nothing to do with his relationship with controversial Liberty, etc. It has everything to do with the results he has produced at LU since arriving there in 06' (I believe). I want the best candidate for the job but I'm sure our front-runners are likely to be one of two things: either a up and coming guy from a higher-rung FCS level school, or a mid/top tier assistant AD at a G5 school. Barber would fit the bill in that regard.

As for Liberty's OC. I think I'll pass on Wagner. He caused enough damage at WCU, and his success in Lynchburg is surprising to me, though I don't think he is actually calling too many shots at LU.

Aaron Stamn is actually the OC. Wags is the asst and OL coach, I wouldn't hire a WCU coach either.

We did successfully when we hired Lonnie Galloway. I wish we still had him despite his lack of pedigree.

Galloway definitely did better than I expected. It would've been nice to have been able to have held on to him a bit longer.

I don't know where Galloway ended up, but as I recall, he moved up from here or after one more gig he moved up.
Actually he ended up in the ACC, albeit Wake:
