Re: Cox
I'm not sure, but with him out the running game was awful in yesterday's scrimmage (averaging less than 2 yards per carry). The upside is the receiving game was on point with several freshman making big contributions.
Re: Cox
2 yds a carry is awful, not going to win many games running like that, can't imagine SS is happy with that, especially after he has been preaching all camp about the emphasis of being able to run the ball this year.

Re: Cox
By all reports the first scrimmages may not reflect this, but when I was still in Boone and at every practice during fall camp, the offense always appeared to really suck until the week or two prior to the first game. It takes time to run those plays to perfection.

Re: Cox
Remember sacks are factored into rushing yards. Add the fact that when a defensive player breathes on the QB, they blow the whistle. Don't read too much into it.

Re: Cox
Good points. Also have to keep in mind some of the situational plays they work on during the scrimmage. No way to make that translate to normal game conditions.bigCasu wrote:Remember sacks are factored into rushing yards. It appears he has not been practicing and as mentioned earlier in the thread did not participate in last Saturdays scrimmage.1ASU78 wrote:Hes getting better and running deeperJROCK98 wrote:Any updates on Cox??

Re: Cox
I believe Marcus may have a torn meniscus. At least those are fixable. My guess would be he'd miss a couple of games if they go in to repair that now.
We'll win or lose as a team. If Marcus can't go, Terrence Upshaw and others will have to step up. That's how teams work. While I'd love to have Marcus at UM, I'd rather have a healthy Marcus for the entire SunBelt run later in the season.

Re: Cox
Saw a a twitter rumor that Cox will be out for 2 games for a torn meniscus.
If true I'd like to change my 2014 season prediction from 6 wins to 4-5. We don't have much of a running game without him. Not that I see us losing to Campbell and I wasn't predicting a win at Michigan, but I just can't see him at 100% after that.

Re: Cox
It is certainly good that we have some depth at the RB position now but losing Cox is about a big a blow as this team could receive. No doubt this will dampen some enthusiasm.Gonzo wrote:Saw a a twitter rumor that Cox will be out for 2 games for a torn meniscus.

Re: Cox
I agree we will win/lose as a team, I just had not seen any info as to what was going on with Cox. The one positive is for the first time in many many years we have a lot of quality depth at RB. The coaches had already said that they expected at least 4 running backs to contribute this year.DaphneUrquhart wrote:I believe Marcus may have a torn meniscus. At least those are fixable. Re: Cox
That's disappointing to hear, especially on a Friday. I guess if there is a silver lining here, we (along with the coaches) know what Cox can do and this gives others a chance to receive more reps and prove themselves.
How might this impact redshirts at RB, if at all?

Re: Cox
Time for Upshaw to prove himself. The coaches have always said he was equally talented as Cox, but that it just took him a little longer to catch on. Tough assignment for your first game.

Re: Cox
Ouch, that hurts. I know the whole next man up thing is the standard response, but unfortunately the way teams usually work in reality is that they aren't as good when their best player isn't available.
Is Josh Boyd healthy? Haven't seen any mention of him in either scrimmage.
