If the AC commish is talking like this, it's coming.
Bowls are toast.

Re: G6 Playoff
The writing has been on the wall since after COVID so the sooner the better. Everyone keeps saying we have to focus on beating Sun Belt schools and stop worrying about schools like UNC, NC State, etc because we can't compete so why chase a title we can't win? Time to have a G6 playoff so there is a title we can actually compete for and win.

A much different tone compared to the previous commissioner.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 2:52 pmhttps://www.footballscoop.com/2026/05/0 ... ll-playoff

Two quotes come to mind:
“Those who do not learn from history…”
&
“Fool me once, shame on you… fool me twice, shame on me..”

They did learn from history. Those with power let too many plebeians get a small taste of power, and that must be stopped. Order must be regained.

Re: G6 Playoff
Yup. We moved up just to be in the second tier. I heard some of our experienced fans say that we would have to move up to be in the second tier way back in the 90s and early 2000s. It made sense.

Re: G6 Playoff
I think they should have set a minimum standard for attendance, budget, and a buy-in and enforced it long ago. A lot of schools are in FBS that don't belong there right now.

Re: G6 Playoff
If they were really serious, the g6 champion would play the p4 champion.
Automatic qualifiers is the only option. Without it, it is nothing but a beauty contest.

Re: G6 Playoff
So the proposal is for a G6 playoff... that doesn't even include the best G6 team. So no one could credibly call the winner the G6 national champion, if there were such a thing.
Real worst-of-both-worlds solution.

Re: G6 Playoff
This is most likely going to come to fruition and it appears that there is nothing the G6 can do to derail this train. That being said I'd like to see that all Division 1 schools (G6 and P4) be allowed to play each other with no conditions. What I mean is let the P4 play the Sun Belt schools without limitations meaning no more "you can only play one G6 to be playoff eligible." This was the old ruling back when we were FCS.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: G6 Playoff
And this time there aren't any set requirements separating the two levels. It's all about being invited to the club and how much cash you have.
We need to put legit standards in place to limit who can be part of our level if we want to keep any sort of relevance going forward. I-AA had no minimum requires which led to so many D2 schools joining.

Re: G6 Playoff
That'll just be the first step toward the eventual outcome of no G6 being in the CFP.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 11:55 pmSo the proposal is for a G6 playoff... that doesn't even include the best G6 team. Re: G6 Playoff
I agree that "G6 runner up" would be an odd tournament and title. But if you look back at our two recent teams that would have been one of the favorites to win that type of tournament (2018 and 2019), winning that odd title would still be better than playing 8-6 Middle Tennessee and 9-5 UAB in a bowl that is virtually meaningless.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 11:55 pmSo the proposal is for a G6 playoff... that doesn't even include the best G6 team. This was something the stay FCS crowd never grasped, it was a frustrating discussion.

I was firmly against this until NIL and the portal came into existence. Completely changed my mind.
Give me the G6 playoff yesterday.

I increased my giving as promised when we moved up. Substantially. I won’t give to a new IAA football effort. Might designate to another sport or take more vacations.

Re: G6 Playoff
Our odds of making the CFP remain the same (for now), the postseason shifts from one bowl game (hopefully this year) vs. a G6 opponents to 2-3 games vs. the best G6 teams that season.

Re: G6 Playoff
I wish someone with some $en$e would see the money in an NIT football tournament and keep the g6 CFP spot and create an NIT for the conference champions who did not make the tournament with some invited teams to create a 16 team playoff. Make it part of the CFP contract that TEAMS FROM THE P4 MUST PARTICIPATE in the NIT tournament to be eligible for the CFP the next year.
That being said...what makes them stop at football. I am sure baseball and basketball will be next.

Re: G6 Playoff
We need promotion and relegation. We can call it the Football Association. They can give out a cup instead of a trophy.
