Luke Combs
Great interview on NBC Sunday Morning with Willie Geist. Luke sports an App State hat and talks a little about his time at App. It's a long and entertaining interview.

Re: Luke Combs
btw, at the end of part 2, which follows in the link, it is hinted that Luke may do a tour of college bars. If that happens, I think Boone would be a great place to start

Re: Luke Combs
Luke was just on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. He said he has no plans to donate to NIL unless there are some assurances such as two-year player contracts. He said his hot take is that he’d love for us to go back down to FCS so we could at least have a chance to win a national championship. For now, he says we are just being farmed for all of our talent. Lost what made App so special. “Best thing that can happen to us is get beat by Oregon by 50 points.”

Don’t agree with the FCS comment, but I 100% agree about contracts.AppGrad20 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 10:10 amLuke was just on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. Re: Luke Combs
I don't agree that App should drop back down, but he's got a point. The odds of App winning an FBS national championship are starkly slim. Winning and FCS championship would almost certainly happen.appstate24 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 11:04 amDon’t agree with the FCS comment, but I 100% agree about contracts.AppGrad20 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 10:10 amLuke was just on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. Re: Luke Combs
Luke Combs has consistently supported our school over the years. Removing him from the stadium play list is bs.
I agree with him that unless we get a big change in the transfer rules, we'll never be the App State we've loved for so long if this doesn't happen

Re: Luke Combs
Slow down this ain’t bluesky. That is a terrible suggestion.
I don’t agree with dropping down but I am reasonable enough to understand his point. I also believe if we were competitive in the CFP era, he would sing a different tune.

Re: Luke Combs
On the contractual idea, I am with Luke 100%.
Not sure how contractually it would work, my comment on a thread on YC a long time ago was related to multi year contracts. If I had enough funds to fund several players for nil, I would want a contract that would be multi-year. Player does not get all of the individual yearly amount. Some deferred. To get all, player has to stay 3 years or (based on eligibility left if they were a transfer). Forfeit if leave early or does something detrimental to get released from team, etc.

Re: Luke Combs
I would like to get him donating to NIL and have 2-year contracts for sure. I don't like the FCS comment. It is short sided. We will be in the second tier when all is said and done if we stay where we are. The G6 is our pier level schools. We don't need to be playing Campbell, Elon, Samford, Gardner-Webb, Tenn Tech, etc every week.

Re: Luke Combs
To be honest FCS is almost like what D2 use to be. Shoot, NDSU was D2 and they are now FBS. G6 is essentially what I-AA was in the 80s and early 90s now.

What an absurd thing to say. He’s a Boone legend and represents us as well as anyone could hope for.

Re: Luke Combs
Under the current way of things they are not. Players need to unionize and have a CBA so we can have contracts. Going to have to be like the NFL.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 12:46 pmIf we have learned anything from this fiasco, contracts aren’t worth the ink they are written in.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 12:08 pmOn the contractual idea, I am with Luke 100%.

Re: Luke Combs
It probably gives more insight into some (most?) of the App supporters with the most money and their thoughts. And because of this we will never compete at a high level with P4 as everything is currently. It would take very large donations to have a chance to compete with even mid-tier P4s each year.
And in that sense I get the FCS comment. We were used to being in post season and having a decent chance at a National Championship for almost a decade. So having zero chance when the season starts each year is hard to swallow for a lot I'd guess.

Re: Luke Combs
It's the only way this can be solved, and you're right, it can't happen. In many states, state employees are prohibited from unionizing. The end.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 2:03 pmYes. Re: Luke Combs
Sure they do. They work in everyday life as well as the NFL, NBA and MLB. Although I am skeptical of the dog and pony show meeting in DC last week, maybe it is a start to getting some type of legislation at a federal to work and contracts follow that in some form or fashion. Someone will challenge it like everyone challenges any type of to law. If changes need to made out of litigation, so be it. Doing nothing is not the answer IMOAppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 12:46 pmIf we have learned anything from this fiasco, contracts aren’t worth the ink they are written in.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 12:08 pmOn the contractual idea, I am with Luke 100%.
