Former football player passing

Unread post by scatman77 » Wed Jan 07, 2026 5:42 pm

I found out today that Coach Joe Eller of Gastonia passed away about 6 months ago. I met him at the golf course where I was working 3 years ago and found out that he was an alum and former football player under coach E. C. Duggins. He was one of the renown “Duggins’ Boys.” He was a real treat to talk to and to get some insight into Mountaineer football way back in the day. His stories of Coach Duggins were epic to say the least!

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

I worked with Joe on some CTE projects in the summer, we shared plenty of stories of playing and coaching football.
