In contrast, Aguilar went 11/13 174yrds 4tds. I'd say we will be just fine at the QB position. AJ Swann will be the man this year.

Having seen exactly one game from Swann and comparing it to all games I saw of Aguilar (almost all of them in person), my take is that Swann is better. No forced throws; no 50/50 balls. He is just a better field general.

The App’s future is bright. So. Miss. will be a good test. If we are good enough to beat Boise, and I think we are, it could be a great season for App fans.

What impressed me more than anything else was it appeared the coaches had everything prepared and ready to roll! Quite the contrast from looking like a deer in the headlights. Especially on D. And how great did it feel to stop a team for 3 and out on their first possession!!!!!

Joey was 16 of 28 for 247 yards and 3 TD's.

He also had 6 carries for 34 yards including a 25 yard run (on a designed play).

I wasn't a big JA fan last year because he passed up many opportunities to tuck it and run. But, maybe that was coaches orders???

Sometimes two teams can be happy with the outcome of this type of situation. I think we are in great shape with Swann.

ASUTodd was referring to Joey’s stats in his first game against Gardner Webb I believe. I agree we are in a great position with Swann. QB will continue to be a position of strength for the team.

Was comparing first games. Just saying we are going to be fine at QB. Wasn't a slight to any of the QBs

I liked Swann’s toughness. He got hit good a few times and bounced up like it was nothing. And even though he probably should slide, on one run he was running through tackles. His teammates have to love that.

I would be very careful comparing Swann to Aguilar as stats alone can be deceiving.

We had a crap defense last year and not a good OLine. Joey was forced to try to make something happen and score lots of points to win. Clearly we have a much better D this year so the offense will not be the only ones carrying the load this year. That drastically changes how the team approaches each game. It also impacts how a QB plays.

Watch both game ones for App and Tennessee for proof. We looked much better as a complete team in game one. See how Joey played with a complete team around him in the UT game.

I was impressed with the way Swann moved and navigated in the pocket - never looked overwhelmed.

Sadly, because that UT QB who went to UCLA is such a head case I think App State and Tennessee both upgraded their QB position. It is early though. Swann has to show consistency but it does appear he might a better decision maker.

Southern Miss is a huge test because they also have good QB play and it will be on the road.

I would have been happy with JA staying with us another season. I'm stoked how Swann performed 1st game out the gate. Looking forward to more. Great conference builder and we'll deserved recognition.
JA did good with Vols as well. Hope both teams have special seasons.

I think Swann is a better QB for DLo and Aguilar is a better QB for Heupel if that makes sense. After game 1, both look to fit the offenses greatly and can both be game changers in their own regard.

Ponce killed Joey mentally last year. He tried to change him instead of letting him play his way.

Swann looked good.
Hard to make a comparison as to whether JA would or would not look good in this offense without him playing in it.
JA looked good Saturday.
For both QBs, conference play will have more difficult opponents.
I hope both step up to the task and play well all season.

We beat UNCC by three scores with either QB.

Got it. I think we have two good ones. It's good to have depth nowadays.

Hope we can hold on to the freshman. Swann has two years of eligibility. I realize he may leave for NIL after this year if he has a great year. However, he could stay.

Wasn't part of Aguilar's extra year of eligibility contingent on him transferring? Like, if he hadn't transferred, I don't think he would've been granted the extra year. I could be wrong though.

Also, it annoys me that ESPN keeps referring to JA as a "UCLA transfer." He didn't play a single down for them. I feel like it shouldn't count.
