Info Flow/Fan Excitement

There are some complaints on 247 about lack of info and I am curious what folks here think. Some were going to avoid going to the scrimmage but now want to in order to see who plays. I feel like AppStateSports.com is putting out similar stuff to what we got in the past. If anything, I have more excitement to see who will be our stars because we don't know anything. What we do will be praised if we win and if we lose it will be questioned, regardless.

I will say that I am 99.9% confident that our coaches know who the starters are going to be but they don't have to tell it yet. We are always quick to look at the depth chart for game 1 every year so no reason to be in panic mode. Loggains has not coached a game yet and we have some fans who need to relax and wait to see how we look after a few games before being so critical.

What do you all think?

Just for me, I'm fine with not knowing anything about who is going to start. We have a completely new staff and a mostly new team. The less they give opponents to prepare for the better I like it.

From a personal perspective, would like to see Coach DLo and/or assistants have more informal pressers after practice. If the content is detailed or not, that does not necessarily matter to me at this point. I like a little secrecy during camp. However,...given we have an all new coaching staff, it would nice to see them connecting to fanbase to increase excitement. The overall content does not matter. It will for some at this point, however, not for me

That is how I am thinking.

On the personal side I can see why you feel that way and I understand it. It seems like they are focused on connecting to the players and that matters most to me. Things have changed and this is all a business now. We know that top tier coaches are not going to stay and I personally don't think Loggains plans to stay long because he will want a big pay day, which we all do. He is personable at events and I feel like if we win nothing else will matter.

I feel the same way. If we don't know, other schools hopefully won't know either. Gonna be a big surprise, good one at that, we all hope.

I will say the last few months have been difficult because of the lack of info.

If we come put and kick Apps the first 2 games my anxiety will be relieved.

I honestly just want to know a few tidbits of positive news

Perhaps right on queue, Loggains will be interviewed at 5:30 by Josh Graham. Hopefully this link works.

Truth be told we have never had a lot of media attention. I really don't think this is a coach or media problem. I don't even think this is people not giving Loggains the same patience that Clark had or anything. We had more roster turnover this year than ever before as a program and just don't know anything. The good news is that we can see them scrimmage on Saturday and will see a depth chart very soon.

Hope this isn't another Drinkwitz situation, but good news if it is.. we had a hell of a year

If this is a Drink situation that means we've been very successful and the defense has improved dramatically.

DJ Smith would be the new head coach if he works that miracle. I'm fine with that.

Agreed that it means we had a huge year and that is fine with me.

Has Gillin or Loggains said DJ is HC in waiting if this goes well or just what people are assuming? Reason I ask is that after what happened with Clark I could see Gillin going for another P4 coordinator with no App ties since it would mean it has worked out very well twice.

Frankly, I’d be surprised if DLO and/or the staff were sharing more information.

Remember what happened last year after the coaching staff hyped the squad to the moon?
Loggains has additional incentive to keep things buttoned up.

Pure speculation, but if a DC can take what we had last year with the personnel losses and turn them into a top G5 defense they will have my attention!

I agree. What if our defense is bottom of SBC though? I just want to see how we look before projecting anything like that. I’m pulling hard for DJ. I just don’t want to put pressure on him.

It's August 13th on a message board, this isn't pressure in the world he lives in.

Fair enough but my point is it is better to temper expectations now because a lot can happen. I was assuming that Gillin would look for someone on offense with a similar path to Drink and Loggains if we have that good of a year. I do like DJ but I don't think it is a slam dunk that Gillin just gives it to a former App guy after what happened with the last one.

Since I brought it up, probably best I clarify what I meant. Mainly just meant that it feels like any details from practices have been scarce. Don’t necessarily need starters listed or even a depth chart, but feels like it’s been tougher than most years to get an idea of who’s making plays in practices and draw conclusions from that. Not the end of the world, but do think it would be nice in a world where we have 30ish or so new guys.

We have never had this much turnover with a new staff so I think that is just how it will be when we have coaching turnover like we did.

At least we can see some action this weekend and that will give us an idea. I am completely fine if the depth chart in the game notes has OR listed at QB and we don't know for sure until he sends someone out for the first offensive play. As Al Davis use to say... Just win baby!
