I think there could be many reasons for his selections, none of which I perceive as sinister. It's possible to land some of the bigger names, he's had to find folks with less on field experience so he can afford the others. I agree, he knows he's got to get it right the first time. I trust he knows what he's doing.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 8:49 amHap your take of interesting hires is a fair one, however taking that next step and questioning a new coach's intentions of not building for the future of App State even before the spring practice is poor form.hapapp wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 7:23 amIts as if any observation that isn't perceived as suggesting everything done by DLo isn't setting a path towards a national title is somehow indicative of wishing Clark were still coach. Honestly, this is an odd staff. I get it; spend more on coordinators and prioritize recruiting; but it’s still a hodgepodge of assistants. Hope it pays off
However, with all of the new coaches in the Sun Belt it is going to be interesting to see who runs what kind of offense and defense. And will these teams be different from what they have been in the past.
First time head coach knows that if they don't get this one right they'll take a step back. Perhaps he's giving other coaches their "first" just as he's getting his first.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Trusting the process is all we can do. This does seem like a pivotal moment in program history though. If Loggains gets it right we'll be in position to re-stake our claim as a premier G5 program. If it goes bad we could see a long setback as it would be tough overcoming back to back failed tenures. We'd likely be looking at replacing a new AD at that point too.hapapp wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 1:59 pmI think there could be many reasons for his selections, none of which I perceive as sinister. This entire staff makes me wonder if Loggains is building for the future of Appalachian Football or the future of Dowell Loggains Football career somewhere other than Appalachian.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
Let me just make a point about Drink. This is not to be a jerk to those that had hard feelings about his one year and left and felt he just took advantage of App and left us in a bad situation, but just an observation that may help folks feel a little better about him.
Apparently he has helped App via references and networking to DLo and other recent staff. It appears his network, which I always thought was very good, is continuing to benefit our program. Hopefully this make some folks feel a bit better about the positives of having that relationship with Drink.
From my point of view, he seems to continue to view App as a good career stepping stone and continues to help whomever is here or potentially any resources that may help us. I appreciate that from a former HC.

I would have VERY fond memories of a place that helped me get a $9MM yearly salary. I’m glad he agreesAtlAppMan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:27 pmLet me just make a point about Drink. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
We got him the $4M/year deal, he earned the $5M increase improving a Mizzu team in the most competitive conference in the nation.
I don’t care for his antics at times, but he can coach football.

He can coach but he also does a very good job of making hires, which is important. That is an area we struggled with big time the last few years so hoping that Loggains is able to improve on that.

Feels like the Assistant budget is being used to hire MORE coaches. We seem to have more analysts than ever, which is a strategy I really like. Helped UL….. Enables more in depth areas of focus, scouting and then feedback. More in line with modern staffs.

Is it confirmed that Loggains will be serving as OC too?CharlotteApp05 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 12:27 pmFeels like the Assistant budget is being used to hire MORE coaches. I don’t anticipate an “official confirmation” but we don’t have a designated OC for a reason. Loggains will call plays.VNova wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 1:33 pmIs it confirmed that Loggains will be serving as OC too?CharlotteApp05 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 12:27 pmFeels like the Assistant budget is being used to hire MORE coaches. Behaviors allowed by the previous staff will not be tolerated anymore. Things could have gone differently.

100%. This is why Loggains still needs to fire more people. We had a lot of stuff tolerated that was bad.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 2:22 pmBehaviors allowed by the previous staff will not be tolerated anymore. Things could have gone differently.
