What happened to him this year? Hurt? Doghouse??

I would guess it has to do with fumbling the ball nearly once a game (feels like)

Sadly, like so many of our other rb over the past 5 years, nobody really seems to know. I think it started out in the doghouse due to fumbles, play issues but then ended with injury but we never knew under SC regime. That is one think I really hope our new coach fixes, we need a featured back not a rotation in every game.

Also, don't think he ever excelled at blocking assignments and blitz pickup. Also, there were those 2 times in the So. Al. game that Joey tried to get him killed.

Brian Haines deserves to be fired over his RB development alone.

Pretty sure he had a knee injury on a run against ODU. He made a cut and came out limping.

After the fumble (which wasn't) against Louisiana, he started the next game against Ga. State and played the first two series. He had 13 carries for 38 yards, while Marshall was more effective and had 18 carries for 115 and a TD.

Then, Kanye has 3 carries before the injury. Don't think he was in the doghouse. His average dropped from 5.7 yards per carry (7 TD's) in '23 to 4.0 this season (1 rushing and 1 receivkng TD)

Am I missing something or was that not Ahmani Marshall? I think Ponce was looking for an every down back. App hasn’t had an every down back since Evan’s graduated. Noel was too small, Peoples ran too upright. The only two real 3 down back options this year seemed to be Haywood or Marshall, and Haywood never really got the chance. Once Marshall got the reigns he made you cry over what could have been.

It does make me wonder if Ponce will be back. App’s offense was predicated on the run, and if you’re down 17-0 in the first quarter of every game, you kind of can’t run 35 times.

Ponce and Joey were not the issue here. They were forced to press to constantly make up for deficits, and I will die on that hill.

Ponce wasn't coming back no matter who the HC was in 2025.

I agree. Offensive game plans were out the window quickly in most games. Joey was a gunslinger who desperately wanted to make a play. When it worked it was beautiful, but it also meant forcing passes that shouldn't have been thrown. People ragged on him for regressing. He wasn’t given much of an opportunity to be successful this year.

Well, we were playing down 0-14 or 0-17 most games. Not really Joey’s or Kanye’s fault.

I will spell this out again:
Yes, our defense was bad (especially the first half of the year in giving up early scores). But, our offense never responded and rarely executed coming out of the locker room. And, often quickly handing the ball back over to the opposing offense. We played the wrong type of complimentary football.

Ten FBS Games
Opening two possessions of the first half X 10 = 20 Possessions

Clemson Punt/Punt
ECU Punt/Pick 6
South Alabama Punt/Punt
Marshall Punt/FG
Louisiana Punt/Punt
GaSt Missed FG/Punt
ODU TD/Turnover on Downs
Coastal Fumble/Interception
JMU Punt/Punt
GaSt Int/Punt

1 TD/1FG (10 points in 20 possessions) 1 Missed FG, 1 Turnover on Downs, 3 Interceptions (including a Pick 6), 1 Fumble, 12 punts. We scored on 1 (O N E) opening possession all season.

Then, after going to the locker room and making adjustments:

Opening two possessions of the second half X 10 = 20 Possessions
Clemson TD/Punt
ECU Punt/Punt
South Alabama Turnover on Downs/Punt
Marshall Punt/INT
Louisiana FG/Fumble
GaSt Punt/TD
ODU INT/TD
Coastal Punt/Interception
JMU Turnover on Downs/Punt
GaSt Int/TD

4 Touchdowns, 1 Field Goal (31 points in 20 possessions) 2 Turnover on Downs, 4 INT's, 1 Fumble, 8 Punts

Total 40 Possessions--41 points scored (bad) on 7 possessions, 12 Turnovers/Turnover on Downs, 20 punts, and a Missed FG

That hill is about as slippery as Miller Hill in a November snow storm.

Ponce and 95% of the coaches will not be back. That’s how it goes with a new head coach.

You're citing the Clemson game? Where the defense gave up 52 points in the first half, as an example of the offense failing?
