New indoor practice facility gets the green light
It's happening.
85,000 square feet. A full field. Physical therapy clinic.
UNC Board of Governors approved the funding model, which uses $14.5 mil in private funding (100% committed), which is half the total. It's $25 mil for the building, an extra $4 mil for the debt payments.
Debt service is a lot less than the January/February proposal the BOG shot down, which was a major egg-on-face moment for the university. App is putting $6 mil in equity contributions into this. 10-year bond and not the 30-year bond.
No student debt fees will be used towards this project, a big change from the previous project.
Demo of the current facility and old softball stadium in January. 15-18 months for completion, which puts the finish at January-March 2026.

If I recall correctly, some of that cost is related to moving the current building to 105 to serve as an indoor tennis venue

That plan was abandoned. The indoor tennis facility will be new construction.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 6:55 pmIf I recall correctly, some of that cost is related to moving the current building to 105 to serve as an indoor tennis venue

So, were looking at about $90 in athletics' debt while both the athletics department and the University have a negative credit watch.

Why can we not use the same program uncc used to get funding here? Uncc got $25mm to expand a stadium that didn’t need expansion. You could argue we don’t need an indoor facility either but I guess need doesn’t matter

Buried in this is that we also were approved for a Doctor of Nursing Practice. I’m guessing three doctoral degrees isn’t going to change our Carnegie classification, but it’s a step in that direction.

That is very good news, the more doctoral programs we get the better. Thanks for dropping this nugget on us.

Are there any new renderings of this indoor practice facility?
