Still can't tackle! Rather tackle low and have them fall forward for 2 instead of ride them high for 10 more yards! Pitiful! Brought a little more pressure on D, which worked each time. Because our dbs aren't real good, we have to bring pressure to give them a chance!

I know folks are flying high after a victory last week, and I'm glad we won as well, but this ODU game and the Coastal game are the only two games left on the schedule that I think we can win. Both are a tossup to me. I think App is better than ODU, but ODU has been playing better the last few weeks. Then again, so has App. *shrugs* I know y'all appreciate that hot take.
They are looking much better and with a redshirt freshman. Another example that shows freshmen can get it done. I am hoping we can get a good HS QB that is able to play this early like the ODU QB or McCall at the start of his career. It would be nice to know who our QB is for 3-4 years.
Any word on the freshman Wilson from Rock Hill?
The rumor going around is that Ponce likes taller QBs and that is why he has gone for Billy and wants a QB in the portal after the season. I also heard that Wilson is not gonna be ready next year but that is disappointing to me because I was hoping with his credentials he would be the guy. I would be curious to hear what those who talk to our coaches on here would say though. We have missed out on 2 QBs from HS we had committed and I am curious to know if we are going to try to get another one out of HS in this class.
I'd like to direct Ponce to a certain 5'11" QB we used to have....
Agreed!

I'm concerned our staff has slowly become enamored with measurables over time. We built the program on guys that could run and had more heart than others. Some of the best players we've had the past few years were FCS transfers that fit our old mold. That speaks volumes to me.

We went form most likely having nothing left to play for to being in a distant discussion for both a bowl and yes, still in the hunt. How cool would it be to win out?
Lloyd Christmas?

0.5% chance of winning the division, so you're saying there's a chance!
Highly unlikely but I am typically both realistic yet optimistic. Until we are mathematically eliminated from both the easy title and bowl consideration I’ll be hopeful.

ODU beat GS 47-19 five days ago. We are unlikely to be favored in any remaining games, but we'll win a couple and just miss out on a bowl if I were to guess.
But, ODU also lost to ECU and Coastal and only beat GaSt by 7. So, who knows in this strange season.

Our keys are to limit mistakes and hit the Freshman QB early and often. We've have to make him one-dimensional (which is a big challenge). He's rushed for at least 65 yards each game. (Usually the type of player we struggle to defend in a normal season)
This was basically what I was thinking too. ODU has beat good teams but lost to bad teams. So who will App play? The carriage or the pumpkin? Hopefully, the game being in Boone helps.

And I agree with Saint, I think we can win this one and maybe one of Coastal/GA Southern which would put us at 5 wins.

I’m always intrigued by numbers. Makes me wonder how many solid form tackles has our defense made this season versus those up high hang on ride the guy for needless extra yards type. I’m guessing if this number was tracked we would have far less of the first one and far more of the second one (then we typically had in great defensive years). We don’t swarm to the ball nearly as much like we used to.

We're about 0/11 on HS QB recruits since 2019. We did the math one day on another thread, but can't find it. I believe it was on the Jett Niu thread.

The West might be the more dominate division this year and we need them to start beating our fellow Eastern teams to give us a chance.
A chance of what exactly?

I’ve often wondered why we aren’t trying to recruit a QB out of HS vs the portal. I know we have younger QBs out of HS on roster but no one knows if they can cut it rbc we’ve gotten our last 2 via portal. But yeah, would be nice to know rather than always depending on the TP. Then again, if we get a good one straight outta high school, and he has a good/great season or two, he’s likely gonna get lured away for bigger NIL opportunities. Double edged sword.

I think App is trying to recruit HS. The coaching staff thought Burger was the guy ... enough so he started the first game, then injured and done for season...gave Joey Dimes the opportunity...
Given where we are at with Joey eligiblity gone and Wiles only one more year after this year I assume....we need to find a QB, whether HS or portal. I would think most fans would prefer HS as gives potential for 3 or 4 years starting...and I would too
With that said, I just want someone good...and prefer at least two years starting...just my opinion

It’s a bit sad that our program has us hoping for 5 wins.

Goodness. Hard to believe that we fallen that far, but it’s also hard to be surprised after witnessing the past few years.

I like App in this game. Clark starts seasons like he starts games: poorly.

Going to need to score 35+, ODU’s QB can throw and run and that is a nightmare for our defense.

QB play hurt ODU early in the season . Anything from the position and they could have won two more games. The freshman was very impressive against Southern in friendly Norfolk. Hopefully not to be repeated in not so friendly Boone.

Hope we keep Hopper rushing from the edge, my opinion he is better when not getting double teamed.

ODU looked all-world against GASO last week...but who knows which team will show up this week?
(the same thing might be said for App)
