35 year old coach. Took over for a fired coach. He's young and hungry. He's got the right mindset on building a program where players want to stay no matter what. To leave legacies. This is what I've been wanting. A young and hungry coach. We are not Boise state and never will be, but we can create a similar atmosphere and culture on the mountain. Develop players for the long haul and get some to the NFL. Build our name as a player developer. This is why I say we need to go after p5 OC/DC. Im not looking for an FCS coach. I want someone who has been there on the biggest stage and is ready to prove themselves. Yes, we can afford them. Yes I've seen many of their current salaries.
If you build it they will come.

"This is the problem with today’s college football: Group of Five conferences have become feeder teams for the Power Four.
The Group of Five does the heavy lifting, and the Power Four reaps the benefits. That’s why Danielson is so adamant about protecting his players — but also doing so by building a program they don’t want to leave."
"You’re not turning down hundreds of thousands of dollars – or in Jeanty’s case, more than a million – if you don’t feel like where you are is where you should be.
“There’s more to life than money,” Jeanty said. “This is my home now. I want to leave a legacy.”
"Boise State is more than one player, or a group of players. It’s a unique DNA bubble built and sustained over nearly half a century by players from all corners, all the way back to the days of junior college football played in the shadows of the bucolic Boise Front Range."

Re: If you build it....
There was a time when kids grew up actually rooting for a particular school and actually dreamed of playing there and in some cases it happened. When it did happen and that kid played and contributed he absolutely never dreamed of transferring. We can talk all day about NIL and our disadvantages which are reality. We built our success by finding the overlooked studs who wanted to prove something and many came to Boone and did it. We need to renew that aspect of our culture. We need to find those hidden gems who want to come to App and we need leaders who can keep them here. I simply can’t imagine that the portal assessment is accurate for our level.

He's been on the staff since 2017. So, he's an internal hire. A little different situation that's in year 1.

I know. Thats why I said took over for a fired coach. He's from a different area and a different school. His only connection is working his way up as a grad assistant to head coach. Young and hungry. We need that.
