Yes, football is secondary but at the same time would App still fielding a team serve as a welcome distraction and even a rally point for the region if they continued to compete? Even if we can't have "home" games, I would think efforts could be made within the area to have home games on our behalf. Tulane did it after Hurricane Ida (Oklahoma even painted the Green Wave logo on their field so they had a true home game). Wake Forest, A&T, Bowman-Gray, you could even use North Wilkesboro Speedway as a location with the way it's set up and not scheduled to host anything after next weekend until the spring. By the looks of it, Wake Forest would be an ideal backup because for our next three home games, the Deacons have two away games and a bye week.AppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 8:39 pmThere is no need to be hard on the guy, everyone is wondering the same thing. If you can answer YES to all 4 then the game possibly can go on, if NOT then go help someone get out of their driveway or house and stop playing on the YosefCabin.
Just based on info passed along on this very forum, it sounds like the answer to all of those questions is probably yes.
If I have learned anything from a long career dealing with catastrophes, and having spent months at a time in places cleaning up after hurricanes, floods, and tornados, it is that anything that can go back to normal should do just that and as soon as possible.
University athletics is such a small thing in the grand scheme of things. But symbolically it would be huge. I am glad to hear the football team is practicing, that the field hockey team won a game today, that the soccer team's game today has only been postponed 2 weeks, that the dining halls are open, and any other news that hints at normalcy.
I know it's not at the top of the list of priorities, and I'm not trying make it so (especially after lighting up some Liberty fans this past weekend) but the school does have a full-time staff dedicated to it, a team of players and it's been well documented that teams coming from tragic situation can help with the healing process.

Guess that would make sense with the classes cancelled.ASUGrad2014 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 9:51 amI have heard that the football team will be traveling to Marshall tomorrow (Tuesday) to prepare for the game on Saturday.

Housing is at a premium to begin with in Boone. If there is a bright side to the season at least we don’t have a home game for almost a month. No chance the road situation will be fixed so logistics will be a nightmare if home games are attempted. The financial ramifications will be staggering.
I saw online where places behind Walmart (Bavarian village, etc) are being evicted. I would think there is going to be a lot of this. Even players.

Clark and Huff have had a great relationship through the years. We helped him leave the SBC media days I believe actually (not sure on the details). That relationship can pay huge dividends at a time like this.

Logistics-wise too because GSU, ODU and JMU could either bus straight in from major interstates and highways or fly into Smith Reynolds Airport which is just a few miles from the stadium.AppState89 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 9:09 amI was thinking the same. Re: Marshall..?
I got an email from the Chancellor, many of you likely received the same email.
It stated that they had been able to maintain power, water and internet on the campus and that the residence halls were in good shape, but some of the administrative buildings didn’t fare as well.
I believe classes are canceled through this week.
Sounds like the Boone campus was lucky compared to surrounding areas. I saw photos of the Walmart completely under water, horrible.
God speed!

What do you mean completely under water? Over the roof? Surely not.

Re: Marshall..?
The Boone Walmart had like 3 feet of water. Not completely underwater. But other places were.

Not over the roof, but totally flooded inside, so the floor space was about waist deep.NewApp wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 1:34 pmKentHogan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 11:52 amI got an email from the Chancellor, many of you likely received the same email.

Not to make light of anything that happened or is happening but if the Walmart store had been under water that is probably about 40’. A bit of logic needs to come into the play sometimes when reading a typo.

Re: Marshall..?
College Place apartments, located behind Wally's where I lived for two years, sit on the same flat plain. When I saw a picture of Walmart, I realized that their time has most likely finally come. The entire first floor of the complex, save one building, would need to be gutted. IMHO, it would be cheaper, easier, and quicker to just demolish and rebuild. Just my two cents.

Rebuilding is more important. Having grown up in Asheville and attending App, it’s absolutely heart breaking to see the destruction in places I spent 22 years of my life at. App nation needs to come together to help these families who have lost family members, homes, cars, family heirlooms, etc.

Re: Marshall..?
Just based on schedule events - BofA, Wake Forest and UNCC are all options with availability for our remaining home games. I don’t think any decisions will be made soon though. There is a lot of work to do but there’s also 3 1/2 weeks of recovery time. It’s obviously not going to be close to normal, but it’s hard to say what the town and area will exactly be later this month.
