Re: Jett Niu
I'm not surprised. If we lose to ECU we may see more. The coaching hot seat/uncertainty is going to come into play with these recruits. While jumping ship after Clemson is a bit iffy, he probably has visions of the NFL and doesn't think our program is on the level to get him there. Combine that with coming from across the country and yuo he's gone. I expect a Midwest team or west coast team will get him.

This was NIL related.appdaze wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 10:40 amI'm not surprised. If we lose to ECU we may see more. The coaching hot seat/uncertainty is going to come into play with these recruits. Re: Jett Niu
I was about to say the same thing. We can never compete financially with a school like OSU so we just need to do a better job at moneyball so to speak.hapapp wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 10:43 amThis was NIL related.appdaze wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 10:40 amI'm not surprised. Re: Jett Niu
So who got him and for how much? Or was it a simple we didn't offer enough so he's back to free agency looking for a payout?hapapp wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 10:43 amThis was NIL related.appdaze wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 10:40 amI'm not surprised. Several P4 teams with a lot more cash than we have.appdaze wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 10:58 amSo who got him and for how much? Re: Jett Niu
Coaches whining about NIL just means they are asking their boosters for more.
I love to point out that Saban moaned and groaned about how they didn't have an NIL collective at Bama and how ridiculous it was that players were getting 6 and 7 figure NIL deals. Then, all of a sudden, Bama has an NIL collective giving out 6-7 figure NIL deals.

Re: Jett Niu
We have always made the most out of the overlooked. Kids that for whatever reason weren't courted by the elite and higher level programs. Or were recruited for positions they didn't want to play, wanted a better chance for playing time or just wanted to go to App. They usually played with heart, grit and a little chip on their shoulder. Like they had something to prove.
Money changes everything. I worry about the motivation of today's kids as much as the fact we can't compete on the money front regarding NIL. If you were young and understood only a fraction make it to the NFL, would you settle for a scholly and playing time or a scholly and a few thousand a month(or more)?
No idea where this all will go but we may find ourselves taking in transfers whose NIL deals magically evaporate or get reduced after a couple of seasons

Utah entered the chat last week, so yes. He could end up there when it’s all said and done.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 11:56 amguys
99% chance we would have lost this kid from UTAH to a big 12 school pre NIL too.

These things don’t happen overnight. OK St lost their QB committ last week so he was likely next man up. Best of luck to him.

Re: Jett Niu
yeah i'd be worried if he flipped to a peer or lower school, but hes going to the big 12 and hes able to play in front of his family/friends and earn more beer money. Win win win if you take off the App colored glasses (which I never do).AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 12:00 pmUtah entered the chat last week, so yes. Frankly another example of App identifying talent. We've had 2 QB decommits though, which sucks.

Re: Jett Niu
Zero people should be surprised by this. Early commitments to top-tier G5’s are beginning to feel like a tactic to help recruits gain visibility and attract larger NIL offers.
