I think this is because of 2 issues. Many voters are just slot voters. Meaning they move teams up and down a certain number of slots. Also, some voters think this was an aberration and ND will bounce back. Stuff like this is why I believe we should not have polls until after 5 or 6 weeks, at least. I would not have ranked NIU yet because I would want to see how they do this week. Majority of the time when an upset like that happens the schools either loses the next week or runs out of gas within a couple weeks and loses to someone nowhere near as good as the Goliath they beat. Believe it or not, right now Northern Illinois is great shape. NIU and Memphis are the only G5s ranked and if they go undefeated and Notre Dame does not fall apart they will be in a great position. 100%. The poll is just used for marketing purposes. It is no longer used for playoff selection.
