And while I am ranting!!! Notre Dame rankings.
It is BS that Notre Dame is ranked ahead of Northern Illinois after they go to Notre Dame and put a whipping on them. Who fills these things out and how could they be so illogical??

I think this is because of 2 issues. Many voters are just slot voters. Meaning they move teams up and down a certain number of slots. Also, some voters think this was an aberration and ND will bounce back. Stuff like this is why I believe we should not have polls until after 5 or 6 weeks, at least. I would not have ranked NIU yet because I would want to see how they do this week. Majority of the time when an upset like that happens the schools either loses the next week or runs out of gas within a couple weeks and loses to someone nowhere near as good as the Goliath they beat. I will be curious to see how they do against Buffalo and then a road game against NC State next week.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 9:32 amIt is BS that Notre Dame is ranked ahead of Northern Illinois after they go to Notre Dame and put a whipping on them. Would it not be something if the MAC is the Non-Autonomy representative to take the 12th spot?AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 11:01 amI think this is because of 2 issues. Believe it or not, right now Northern Illinois is great shape. NIU and Memphis are the only G5s ranked and if they go undefeated and Notre Dame does not fall apart they will be in a great position. Texas State could get right there with them if they can beat Arizona State this weekend.AppWyo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 8:04 pmWould it not be something if the MAC is the Non-Autonomy representative to take the 12th spot?AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 11:01 amI think this is because of 2 issues. ND hasn’t been great in 20 years. Living off the 1900s.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 9:32 amIt is BS that Notre Dame is ranked ahead of Northern Illinois after they go to Notre Dame and put a whipping on them. Who fills these things out and how could they be so illogical??

If it isn't us I hope it's Texas St. That fanbase has suffered for a long time and seems to have reasonable fans. Plus the check is better.

the AP poll purpose is not to identify the top 25 teams but to give the marketing arms of large media companies content to pump up their selected games.
Since Notre Dame is probably still the biggest single brand they will be ranked as often as possible no matter how good their team actually is.

Anyone (without looking) know who the 17th ranked team was after week one last year in the AP pole? How about the 17th ranked team after week 6? Nobody knows or cares. It pains me to say but I think the only poll should be the computer since it can use predetermined criteria and is impartial.

100%. The poll is just used for marketing purposes. It is no longer used for playoff selection. Until the CFP comes out none of the rankings matter.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 9:58 amAnyone (without looking) know who the 17th ranked team was after week one last year in the AP pole?
