Offense Preseason Awards

Unread post by Saint3333 » Wed Aug 14, 2024 7:46 am

So many weapons on this offense, four deep at RB, 6 deep at WR with a known at QB.

Who is your offensive MVP (first and second as Joey will be a common answer)?

Who is your breakout player?

Who is a contributor under the radar?

I have feeling about new WR William Fowles. Hoping our entire Oline breaks out.

GO APPS!!

MVP - Nate Johnson
Breakout - Fletcher
Under the radar - Yowe

Edited to add my offensive predictions:
MVP - Joey/KRob. Take your pick.
Breakout - Fowles
Under the radar - Shrader - I almost considered him for MVP. I think he’ll be a great player for us.

Well I completely missed the boat then by going all defense. I’ve always been bad at following directions.

MVP- Joey - logical and easy choice
Breakout- entire OL unit - I see it as the only real question coming into the season on offense
Under the radar- Max Drag - all starters and many backups are already known commodities

Curious question for those picking the OL or members of the OL. How will you measure success?

Time QB has to throw, sacks allowed and holes my old azz could run through (or our rushing stats - top 2 in conference - top 30 nationally)

Eye test, running stats, sacks allowed, conference awards.

If we don’t have at least 2 all-conference (regardless of team) OL, then it would be a disappointment.

MVP - going in different direction as I hope for 1000 yard rusher- Kanye
Breakout - Jackson
Under radar - OL.. cautiously optimistic. I look at OL as one as they have to work in concert with each other.

I think likely MVP is Kanye Roberts which means the OL shares the glory.
If we have to rely on Joey and Kaedin then the OL underperformed.

That said, Kaedin will have a year, and then I think we'll see him on Sundays.

Interesting criteria. I’ll be curious to see your assessment at the end of the season.

I am curious to see if they can find a place to work in Grant Tucker this season. Apparently he’s got lots of potential.

I wouldn’t count on much from him. He’s still learning and he has a lot of traffic in front of him. He could be a 2025 breakout candidate.

Good sign a 4 star WR can't crack the two deep. He's a stud, watching him in HS, he'll get an opportunity.

I can’t really say that there is a better way than what was described. However, if I’m being completely honest I don’t know that there is a correct way to judge it. The eye test is fair but very subjective toward recency bias; meaning a negative play can have a greater effect on one’s overall assessment than 10 good ones. Using statistical data is misleading as well because often times, a sack can be attributed to secondary coverage. The OL can’t be expected to hold a block forever. Last year the OL gave up a sack (21) on 4.4% of all pass attempts. In 2022, the OL gave up fewer sacks to a less mobile QB (18) but still gave up a sack on 5% of pass attempts. That number was 4.1% in 2021 and 7% in 2020. My point being is that the # of sacks allowed requires context. There is also the rotation factor in that are we judging guard play or each individual.

I’d be interested to see how folks on here would grade a performance each game versus what a service like PFF would. Like I said, I’m curious as to how it would be judged because I am curious.
