Thoughts on the season/Team?

I’m just throwing this out there because of a conversation I had this weekend. I think we’re good all around except OL . We may be good there also but I’m just not in the know. I’ll say this I do have a very good feeling about this year if it means anything.

Thanks for this topic.
It seems we may be bigger on the line than in past years. Is that true?

We should be fine across the front line. Once they settle on the top 7 guys, we will be fine.

I know nothing about the line. Honestly probably the biggest question mark going forward for the people.

That’s fair. I do understand the questions about the unknown. Thing is that while we lost 4 starters, we have guys like Scroggs, Gentry, and Ramsey that played significant snaps. So we aren’t completely starting over.
Cummings told me that he needs 7 guys to rotate. (8 is a good problem to have). He is confident that he will have his 7 by game 1. He didn’t offer names and I didn’t ask. My guess is that the seven are likely, Samuel, Shrader, Gentry, Scroggs, Sweatt, Langlo, and Hollifield.

On paper, the most talent we’ve had in the Clark era?

Games aren’t played on paper. They are played on televisions.

That is why they play the games.

My biggest concern is OL as well. We have some recruits and transfers that are unknowns until they play and gel. Bigger is not always better. Hope they are as good as some we have had in the past with the size as well.
We can have all the skill players. However, if OL does not gel and move in concert together...the skill players may not be able to show their skills.
I hope they gel and are very good. We need them to be.
The dog days of summer are upon us in a sports dessert...and the Olympics will not fulfill that void for me anyway..

Perhaps, but we were pretty loaded offensively in ‘21
Seeing how the 4 new guys on the OL gel, and if the DL beefed up to fight the run will be the two main units to watch in Fall camp.

Moving Kaedin to the slot will make this offense scary good. It was difficult to see in the bowl game because of the weather and field conditions but he is seemingly unstoppable in the slot. Teams are going to have to scheme to double him and then guys like Jackson and Fowles are going to need to step up and Joey will need to mature enough to not force it to KR and let the other playmakers take over.
Joey staying healthy is uber critical for the success of this team, but I do feel that Wiles can steer the ship if needed.

One of my personal hopes is that 8 evolves into the talent I feel like he has. Maybe the best hands on the team besides 2. IMO

O line is always a concern of mine. Coach is confident we are two deep there for the first time. I take that as we will be ready to roll. No excuses.

They're installing a cardboard based turf in Chapel Hell because the Holes are always better on paper.

It is really amazing how bad an offensive line can be- see the Carolina Panthers. The difference in a solid one and a Swiss Cheese one can be remarkable.

Is Ramsey just an accidental omission or do you think he has been passed by those mentioned?

Omission. He is mentioned in the 1st paragraph and not in the second by accident. He is likely in the tackle rotation with Samuel and Shrader. I should have said that #7 is either Hollifield or Langlo.

No doubt. That dude is smooth as butter and his next step could be a big one. He has the tools and god given ability to be unstoppable.

if Oline is our weakness, I'm feeling good. Coach's specialty is OL, and he knows who to recruit. He can teach them. Feel like we'll settle quickly. Good news is Joey is mobile, so he can buy more time in the early games.
Drink didn't exactly spend a lot of time recruiting his one year here. Clark has now got the ship in the lane he wants with the guys he's recruited. Expecting a very good season
