Those are my exact thoughts. I'm not saying Shawn would get fired, he has more job security now too with Everts gone, but we would have a lot of restless fans and some pressure if he wins just 8-9 this year. If the OL turns out to be good and we stay healthy I am truly expecting to at least finish 11-3.t4pizza wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 11:36 amIf the Oline holds up and plays well then we should have a really good season. By really good I mean no more than 1 out of conference loss and no more than 1 conference loss with a Conference Championship. If the Oline doesn't play well, we could drop 4-5 games. Really hope the Oline plays well, it has been too long since we won a championship and it is needed sooner rather than later.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Oofh this is what I was reading . Going to be a lot of unfamiliar names. Clark will be earning his dollars this year for sure.

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
True. But OL is so hard to prospect for G5. Everyone wants OL so the market gets inflated with NIL. We got a lot of potential in the portal but not a lot of snaps.
Think of it terms of Troy Everett. He was benched after Texas St and replaced with a FCS transfer and he went to Oklahoma and got $50k. That’s insane.

This isn’t meant as an excuse … merely a fact to consider. Thirty-nine players on our current roster weren’t on the roster last season. That, to me, is a lot, even during the crazy, come-what-may times we live in. It tells me the product we see early on could need some seasoning.

Or a different way to look at that is we upgraded many positions losing less to the TP than we gained.AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 8:48 pmThis isn’t meant as an excuse … merely a fact to consider. This is arguably the most talent Clark has had at his disposal since he took over. Execution and some favorable bounces could make it special.

100%. Some on staff were saying when we got Aguilar and Burger that 2024 would be the season. I am not saying we should go 14-0 but if we really are a top 25-30 team like they expected we should be then that means they think we can win 11 or more. If the OL gels and we stay healthy then I do believe we can. We have a lot of veteran talent and a lot of young guys the staff is very high on.

Exactly. We have to stay healthy and maybe need a favorable bounce or two but there is potential to have the best season since 2019 for sure.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 8:51 pmOr a different way to look at that is we upgraded many positions losing less to the TP than we gained.AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 8:48 pmThis isn’t meant as an excuse … merely a fact to consider. Let’s not overlook the benefit of having:
1. Stability in our coaching staff
2. An outstanding S&C coach
These will positively impact the product on the field.

Stability has been refreshing in this new world of college football.
But after 4 years, it's time to n*t up and win.

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
I would be interested to see how playing time of transfers shakes down. Of the guys who transferred in how many of them played significant minutes/snaps at their prior school? Of the ones who transferred out how many of those guys played significant snaps? If the net is a plus we should improve (theoretically) but if we lost major contributors or guys expected to significantly contribute and we simply brought in dudes who rarely played the net could (theoretically) be a minus along with major question marks. I don’t know if this could absolutely be quantified but I’m sure it could be close.

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
What does "the year' mean to you (and others)?
Would winning 10 regular season games but losing in the SBC Championship game be considered a failure? What if we won 10 and went 7-1 in the SBC, but couldn't play in the title game because the loss was against someone in our division that was undefeated or only had one loss? In 2019 we went 11-1 with two P5 wins, but had to rely on GS losing to a 4-5 Troy team the week after they beat us to stay in the SBC title race. We faced nearly the same situation in 2018 when GS had to lose two after beating us to make the championship game. We also needed help in 106 and 2017.
Personally, I think we're the favorite to win the conference and therefore would be in the conversation for the CFP. I expect at least 9 wins but think 11+ is very possible. That said, I don't want to be unrealistic at how difficult winning 10+ and a SBC Championship is.

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
So if we make it to the SB Championship and lose are you going to call for Clark & Co to be fired?
I ask b/c the way say "n*t up and win" sounds contradictory to the stability you're happy with.

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
Win the SB Championship or just make it?
And if we don't win what it what do want to happen?
I really don't like ultimatums like that b/c it takes nothing into account about the season as a whole or what could come next.

Re: Thoughts on the season/Team?
If we continue the momentum from the end of last season, OL is successfully replenished, and the defense continues to improve, we should be hosting the CCG and be in discussions for the playoffs near the end of the season. More importantly, we need to remind the rest of the conference who it was that raised the level of play and why we are where we are as a conference. We’ve had too many seasons where our conference opponents have matched us pretty well. We need to put the notion to bed that they are our equals. We need to invest in sandpaper and book our flights to Baghdad. I expect total domination and annihilation of our conference foes, Liberty and ECU. I want to get other teams coaches fired for losing 65-7. And last but not least, #BeatETSU.
