Athlon Predictions

Unread post by AppStFan1 » Thu Jun 06, 2024 12:20 pm

They have us #39 in the nation and the only teams they have ranked ahead of us on the schedule are Liberty and Clemson. Just based on ratings they would have us going 10-2. I know the OL will need time to figure things out but I will admit that I feel like anything less than 9-3 this year would be a huge disappointment. The odds makers who have us with 5 losses just seems like too many to me as long as we stay healthy.

September 29th is the earliest I would even think we have a shot. We have to be undefeated at that point or we would likely need to win out from there and need some help for the playoff to be possible. Even if we are undefeated then it still might not be a clear path depending on how Memphis, Boise, etc are doing.

I honestly feel the same way. Seeing our place Sept 29th after the Liberty game is the earliest that we would know if we have a chance but December 7th is the real date I have my eye on. I can't waste my time thinking about going to the playoff when I don't know how goo this team will be yet. The Sun Belt is too tough of a league for me to think that far ahead.

Thanks for the link. They sure don't think much of our OL or DL, just one player from each on the 4th team.

Its early . . . just wish we had a few more known commodities

It has be more difficult to do these projections given the amount of portal activity that teams experience now. I'm certain most teams have a lot of question marks given the unproven or unknown talent that teams are plugging in to their lineups.

Imagine if we did win another National Championship in Football...how would that change Appalachian?

Scroll down to the bottom and see the top four winning programs that are former FCS members.

Those schools have to play each other every year currently. It does not get much better than that.

Thirteen, Real National Championships...

Well we are replacing 4 starters on the OL.

Very hard to have more than 1 on the list when a team has to replace 4 starters. I just hope we have 3 or more when it matters most on the postseason coaches list.

We neee to settle in on a 7 or 8 man group that can be rotated in and out. It will be interesting to see who Cummings settles on. In talking with him, he feels good with what he has. He just needs to see how they perform when the pads get put on.

The raw material seems to be there. Expectations are high. No excuses.
