Buy or sell? 80 team premier league
https://www.collegefootballdawgs.com/p ... per-league
Includes all “P5” teams, with ND and newly added SMU to round out 7 divisions of 10 teams. The 8th division would be the top 10 G5 programs who could be relegated each season. Non-football sports would remain in their current conference.

Not opposed to the concept but absolutely opposed to it only applying to the G5 and others not labeled P5. Why should bottom feeders be grandfathered into protected status?moonshine wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 11:08 pmhttps://www.collegefootballdawgs.com/p ... per-league

Relegate all programs by geography. Five conferences of 12 based upon traditional P5 lines, five G5 conferences, and every year the bottom/top 2 flip. It would make every game in November so much fun.

I am with you. If you want true relegation then everyone has an equal shot at relegation and promotion.hapapp wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 6:19 amNot opposed to the concept but absolutely opposed to it only applying to the G5 and others not labeled P5. So you are suggesting a partnership with say the SEC and SBC and a MAC with BIG situation?

Correct. The bottom half of the P5 programs would never go for it. But it would be fun. Imagine SC getting regulated down for CCU or Michigan St. for Western Michigan, popcorn worthy.

I think that it is the only system that would work. Only having 9 true conferences now creates an obstacle that would need to be overcome.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 8:04 amCorrect. I have a lot of questions on how this would work but also are the solutions to problems more short term or long term fixes.

It would literally take an act of congress for something like that to form, the powers (really the top two conferences) have a straggle hold on the sport for the foreseeable future.
Fun to discuss at a bar or message board, but that's the extent of it.

Unfortunately, I think Saint is right on this one....not going to happen without an act of congress.

Re: Buy or sell? 80 team premier league
Relating it to the EPL...many of the players in the EPL have a relegation clause in their contract which basically states if their club is relegated down to the Championship League, then they have the right to seek a new team. I could see the same thing happening in this format with how open the transfer portal has become. You'd see a huge number of players hit the transfer portal once it was clear their team would be looking at relegation.
This would also make scheduling into the future pretty.much impossible.
It is a fun discussion topic though, and as a fan of a G5 team (As we all are) if it were a realistic possibility I'd love to see it.

I imagine scheduling would follow the same format as the NFL is that the schedule is made based on the slot occupied in the standings. Say Team #1 plays 3,5,7,9 on the road and 2,4,6,8 and 10 at home./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:42 amRelating it to the EPL...many of the players in the EPL have a relegation clause in their contract which basically states if their club is relegated down to the Championship League, then they have the right to seek a new team. Re: Buy or sell? 80 team premier league
I am supportive of this idea in principle but highly skeptical in practice of this particular arrangement. A relegation scheme that theoretically (though not realistically) allowed teams to move from the very top to the very bottom over a number of years and vis versa is one I highly support.moonshine wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 11:08 pmhttps://www.collegefootballdawgs.com/p ... per-league

I also like the idea of conference alignments for other sports not corresponding to football alignments. If non-football college athletics is going to survive this upheaval, they must be separated.
