Re: 2024 Spring Ball
This is certainly off season material, but my comment is insinuating that JA leaves and our staff may have an inkling of knowledge. I haven't a clue about if he could at this popint or be stolen away for greener money? So was this the case, we covered our backside and promised the Texas QB the moon?

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
Anything is possible. But, when Burger left we were in the market for another QB to serve as a backup. I would think if we were concerned about JA leaving, we might have pursued someone other than the 4th string Texas QB. Of course, Joey could pull a Burger and get hurt in the first game of the season. The Texas QB does have some experience, at least more than the other QBs on our roster.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 1:16 pmThis is certainly off season material, but my comment is insinuating that JA leaves and our staff may have an inkling of knowledge. Re: 2024 Spring Ball
I don’t think so. As mentioned above, the QB from Texas was a backfill of Burger and not a hedge. While things could always change, I’ve spoken with both Jose Sr and Jose Jr and I don’t get that vibe that they would bolt.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 1:16 pmThis is certainly off season material, but my comment is insinuating that JA leaves and our staff may have an inkling of knowledge. I know, but the promise JA has shown, one of these monied schools gets in a bind, he could come up missing.

He’s already turned down some offers. I think that we are as good as we are going to be.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 3:11 pmI know, but the promise JA has shown, one of these monied schools gets in a bind, he could come up missing.

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
Pray for P5s with deep pockets not to lose a QB during spring ball, that's one of the few paths that doesn't bring him back. The interview on BGP seemed to strongly indicate he really enjoys it in Boone and with this team.

No shame in 4th string at Texas. He''s likely pretty good if he is a QB there.hapapp wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 1:56 pmAnything is possible. There are some good names as Texas QBs 1-2-and #3 was probably the top HS QB

Call me crazy, but wouldn’t it be considered heresy if Arch transferred to any program outside the SEC?Black Saturday wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 7:15 pmStumbled onto this...fwiw

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
I'm sure he is under magnificent pressure to be the best with all of his family's accolades. Maybe there is some entitlement mentality too....why am I not starting right away? I'd likely strike Ole Miss and Rocky Top off the list of landing spots for him in the SEC Hell, how many schools are in the SEC now? 2 dozen?Bootsy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 8:12 pmCall me crazy, but wouldn’t it be considered heresy if Arch transferred to any program outside the SEC?Black Saturday wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 7:15 pmStumbled onto this...fwiw

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
I think the other thing we learned last year is that practice Joey and GAMEDAY Joey might be 2 different people. Not saying he doesn't practice hard or prepare but sometimes how you act on gameday doesn't translate in practice. He was neck and neck with Burger in practice but the stats in the elon game are wildly different, not to mention the whole body of work.704App wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 9:07 pmThere's always a chance, but QB1 is Joey's to lose.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 9:02 pmAny remote possibility we end up without our current #1 QB? If White outplays him in spring ball and camp, he can take the reigns. I just don't expect it.
But, the coaches will always put the best 11 on the field at a time. Only way anybody is a sure starter is if there isn't anybody else in their position group.

We played Elon last year...damn, I missed a game. I thought the FCS opponent we played last year had like 3 or 4 Heisman candidates on the team...

Re: 2024 Spring Ball
I get the feeling that Joey scared the coaches. I think they saw Burger as more of a game manager and Joey as a gunslinger. But we have no way of comparing the two. The coaches could have made the correct choice with Burger. We will never know.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 8:42 amI think the other thing we learned last year is that practice Joey and GAMEDAY Joey might be 2 different people. Re: 2024 Spring Ball
Fair assessment. I got the feeling that Joey played a little outside of Clark’s comfort zone. As the season went along, I think that Joey helped Shawn grow as a coach.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 12:25 pmI get the feeling that Joey scared the coaches. Our schedule makers do a good job every year in finding the FCS schools that have Heisman candidates.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 9:23 amWe played Elon last year...damn, I missed a game. I thought the FCS opponent we played last year had like 3 or 4 Heisman candidates on the team...
