"Make a play, get paid"
This is a really interesting idea:

Interested in what you fine folks think of this. Would it work?

Re: "Make a play, get paid"
Makes about as much sence as this whole NIL deal does. From day one it was a very bad idea, it is only getting worse, and there is no way to turn it around.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 10:31 amThis is a really interesting idea:

Re: "Make a play, get paid"
I don't think this or the "collectives" is what anyone envisioned for NIL. Caleb Williams in Dr. Pepper and Nissan commercials is fine, but wealthy alumni putting money into a pot to pay players should be criminal. If we think "make a play, get paid" won't get intertwined with online betting, we are wearing blindfolds. To get paid, the athletes should have to provide something of value to whomever is paying. Shame on the NCAA for not getting in front of this. The SEC and Big 10 (and you could include Disney) are going to ruin college football.

This is a very valid point. Many stadiums not located in metropolitan areas have poor cell service, which would basically render this idea DOA.

Do you really believe that? How could anyone not see this coming?Appst86 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 10:48 amI don't think this or the "collectives" is what anyone envisioned for NIL. Re: "Make a play, get paid"
At first I was like...this is the dumbest thing ever. Then I had to leave a tip for my waitress who did a great job..... Didn't seem so far fetched then. Plus it might push some slack players to get a move on. The people getting screwed the most by this would be the OLine. Most folks don't pay attention to what they do. Fans see a great running back and forget he has a wall in front of him making holes.

It’s so stupid. Let the big money pay. Average guy support Yosef Club until the game becomes even more ridiculous. At that point bale out and it’s coming soon.

Re: "Make a play, get paid"
I appreciate the hard work all college athletes put in for all sports for our entertainment. Once it reaches the point where certain athletes make public statements regarding donating to a certain collective it's gone too far. The public begging for money is insane. Years ago when this stuff was about to start I asked how would money get equitably distributed. Is a backup lineman at a big school really going to be happy seeing a stud quarterback getting some big NIL deal? How in gods name will this new thing with the $30k per scholly get distributed? Who will decide the worth of certain athletes?

If this new arrangement is put in place and a school has to pool $6m how will they decide who gets what?

Re: "Make a play, get paid"
When I started this thread, I didn't say I agreed with the concept of "make a play, get paid."
It's just one more illustration of a world gone crazy in "college" sports.
Watching an stuff on ESPN, NFL pre-game shows and games themselves is tantamount to sitting through a 3-4 hour gambling infomercial. Is that where "college" football and basketball are headed?
And as others here have more or less alluded to, where does all of this end?

Re: "Make a play, get paid"
I think it's dumb and has nothing to do with how NIL was supposed to function. Which of course you could say about most NIL efforts now.
What I WOULD like to see is bowl games offer financial incentives for players for participation. Seems like an obvious way to at least try and incentivize guys who plan to transfer or enter the draft to "opt in" instead of quitting before the season is over.
