Re: Wyoming Discussion
Never been a fan of comparisons of common opponents, or similar opponents, especially this early in the season. We took a UNC team to two overtimes. A UNC team that beat South Carolina, that was up 14-3 against UGA in Athens. Wyoming played Texas well, and Texas is a great team, but they didn't do much better than Rice did against Texas, and the Bama win will lose it's quality more and more as the season progresses in my opinion. Could we also have beat Texas Tech at home? Possibly.
As for what I've seen from Wyoming...They are great at running the ball. They've got the line to do it, and while passing is still a threat, I didn't see a WR that concerns me. Battle will be at the line, and Apps ability to use speed on both sides of the ball will be crucial. This will be an exciting game to watch.

Agree. Re: Wyoming Discussion
Lead up is interesting. Wyoming has played Texas Tech, Texas and Prairie State. We've played UNC, ECU and G Webb.
ESPN has us at 40% chance of winning. Both Sagarin and Massey have us as winning.
Stat wise, something will have to give. We average 451 ypg and they allow 376 ypg (241 through the air). They average 327 ypg and we allow 364 ypg.
Won in overtime vs Texas Tech and were 10 to 10 with Texas entering the 4th quarter.

Re: Wyoming Discussion
It was 20-20 at the end of regulation against TT. They scored 10 against Texas. You can certainly attribute that to competition but you can look at it as they have issues stringing a drive together. Getting them behind the chains will limit them.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 8:14 amLead up is interesting. Wyoming has played Texas Tech, Texas and Prairie State. Re: Wyoming Discussion
Basically there are lots of teams who might be playing way over their heads right now or haven't started clicking either. Happens every year. While a Texas and Alabama are usually loaded and deep either can have an off (9-3) type season. The App team I have watched can be virtually unstoppable on offense if all phases are in sync.
I wonder what the stats reflect for games involving cross country travel played between 2 peer schools (say over the last 5 years or so). I'd say we are about even so the travel distractions are definitely a hurdle. You know our training staff is doing all they can to prepare. Is there a large flat area around Beech to practice on?

Re: Wyoming Discussion
Not excited at all about the forecast, and not that it could be in the upper 30's, but the 25mph winds will be a problem in the passing game. With our guys, I gave us the advantage on being more multi-dimensional. Time to heal up TE's and the lines are going to have to play great. Time to whip out the winter gear for this one.

A rare opportunity to prepare for our future weather games in September.AppOrange wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 11:14 amNot excited at all about the forecast, and not that it could be in the upper 30's, but the 25mph winds will be a problem in the passing game. Nice conversation between David and Shawn. What's next for Yosef.... Fly over? Drive in on the App State Jeep?

Yeah probably 40's during the game and that 20mph wind is going to be an early chill for our guys.

I still have nightmares about my bday game in 2019 in cold, wind, rain, sleet, etc.

Re: Wyoming Discussion
Wyoming is another excellent opponent for sure. We will have to execute well in all phases to bring home a W. Wyoming is favored at home as a decent team should be.
I am cloudy on where the comments regarding the Cowboys being our best opponent so far derive?
Better than # 17 UNC? What am I missing?

Re: Wyoming Discussion
For the record, Wyoming played against Portland State (FCS) and not Prairie State. That Portland State team just won over an NAIA team 91-0.

Speaking of Coach Moore: would you say those kids are well coached and play hard?AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2023 9:57 amRemember Wyoming is coached by the same guy that built the NDSU dynasty and is a really good friend of Coach Moore.
There's a reason Wyoming is good. They are well coached, have the same philosophies as us (blue collar, pound the ball, wear the other team down), and have a proven winner at the top.
It's going to be a damn good game.

Re: Wyoming Discussion
Wyoming's football team reminds me of a big lumbering bull that keeps plodding along. Might be strong and steady but can't keep up with the racehorses. I don't see them running with our wide receivers and I don't see them holding Noel to under 100. Altitude might give us some fits but that would be the only thing that would hinder us. I don't think Wyoming is anywhere near the team UNC is. I am less worried about this game than I was UNC or ECU.

Re: Wyoming Discussion
Ha, probably! Pretty sure Coach Moore was Coach Bohl's coach at Nebraska so, yes, Bohl probably got a lot of his coaching style from Moore -- including making sure every opponent is coached well and playing hardappvette wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 12:56 pmSpeaking of Coach Moore: would you say those kids are well coached and play hard?AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2023 9:57 amRemember Wyoming is coached by the same guy that built the NDSU dynasty and is a really good friend of Coach Moore.
