Re: EZU discussion
Joey still needs to do more to hold off burger. Too many times where he is careless with the ball. He also floats a lot of passes.
So many fans bickering for Kanye. OUR COACHES KNOW BEST. That’s why he hasn’t gotten much run. He fumbled in camps and now in his first action. If he wants to be great, he needs to hold on to the ball.

Re: EZU discussion
Both were the wrong call.
We were clearly out classing them on both sides of the ball. Play them straight up don’t outthink yourself.
Good win though overall. Need to be better to win next week though.

Who cares. A ton of suites will play other games. The App game is right in front of them. What is the point of showing a worse view from ESPN +?

I get that ECU's standards are high and they have been let down for going on 8 years now, but any time they play a close game, or the QB struggles just a bit, their fanbase goes nuts. Holton Ahlers was somehow not good enough for ECU but is good enough for the Seahawks type of thing. Houston seems over it because he likely knows better than the fans since he is at practice every day.
I'd imagine much of this centers around QB play. ECU had Patrick Pinckney until 2009, then Dominique Davis comes in along with the Air Raid and elevates their program. Shane Carden comes in and continues that legacy with Lincoln Riley. Then Gardner Minshew comes in, does good things, leaves, Ruffin is fired, Scottie Montgomery is hired, and the rest is sort of recent history.
Their fans are so restless for the type of season they haven't had, maybe ever (when is the last time they won 10 games?), and he has a four star QB he's trying to develop, yet the fans lose their minds. Garcia has struggled and looks lost out there right now, but with his physical tools and obvious NFL speed and arm, not to mention size, it wouldn't be wise to give up on him after two games.
I don't know that Garcia will ever figure it out, but if he does, I hope it's not this week. He has a cannon of an arm and can run so if his mind should ever catch up with his physical talents, he'd be one of the most dominant QB's in college football. But there is a reason he ended up at ECU instead of a Florida or something.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Joey has done enough in my opinion. He sometimes is careless with the 50/50 balls, there were at least 5-6 of them.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 8:15 pmJoey still needs to do more to hold off burger. Too many times where he is careless with the ball. He also floats a lot of passes.

On 14- That’s why you run him up 21 against GW with the game out of reach, so he can get his touches/reps in non high leverage situations. It was his first game action in 11 months, he will be fine but yes- hold onto the ball, don’t fight for extra yards when laying on someone. Clearly he can run, he got us back in the game.
Marshall comes back soon too, going to be a scary backfield!

Re: EZU discussion
Going through the posts on this thread I missed during the game and my god. You people are a piece of work. EVERY WEEK. So many arm chair coaches on here. It’s funny how everyone goes silent during the game when we start enforcing our will.
1. We dominated ECU. Maybe you had to see it with your own eyes, but ECU only scored when we made stupid bone headed mistakes.
2. Never once during the game did it feel like ECU would take control.
3. Our defense played lights out after the first drive (and that TD was only because we had a dumb offsides)
4. We outscored ECU 43-14. Think about that. We gave them 2 TDs, made mistake after mistake and STILL dominated to a 2 score victory.
5. This is a SBC contender.

p.s. we also could have put 50 on them and really embarrassed them but we chose not to. The score was much closer than the game actually was.

I was really proud of the students. The entire student section as well as Miller Hill appeared packed through the fourth quarter.

Re: EZU discussion
Didn't read everything but here's my summary...
We saw why Kanye hasn't played much. He can't hold on to the ball. Also, play calls changed when he came in. It was a lot less reads he had to make. There's no denying he can run the ball. It's the other stuff we don't see as fans that has buried him on the depth chart.
We ran more outside zone today than we have the first two games. We've ran more inside this season than usual, but they threw more outside today.
Favors is a monster. And he's just starting.
I didn't mind the first 2 pt attempt. The difference between 4 and 5 points is still a TD. I wouldn't have called it, but understand why it was called. The second was by necessity because of the first attempt.
Our depth on defense is going to prove very impactful as the season goes on. I haven't gone through the participation minutes yet, but it seems we are playing up to 20 different guys on defense. And a lot of them are YOUNG. That's going to pay huge dividends -- possibly in the very near future.
This team has a chance to be special. You can just see things clicking as the games go on. They're trusting each other more. They know the LB that is supposed to be in that hole will be so they can worry about their job only -- not everyone else's job like some had to do last year.
I still think we lose 3-4 more games this year. But, this is a completely different team than last year. And barring some key injuries and/or departures in the transfer portal, they can be really good for a long time.

Re: EZU discussion
Let me be clear. Joey has played good. I just don’t think he has played at a level yet that would cause him to leap over a QB that didn’t even play one healthy drive. I still think there is a reason Burger was named the starter. It is and should be an ongoing competition. To say it’s not close is not a genuine statement.diehardapp18 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 8:47 pmYou are absolutely insane hahahhaha. This team is night and day from last season already. It is amazing the turnaround happen so fast and I am hopeful the improvement keeps happening. We have improved each week and still haven’t even played a complete game yet. The ceiling is high for this group.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 8:53 pmDidn't read everything but here's my summary...

I just go back to the age old saying “the most popular player on the team is the backup quarterback.”ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2023 8:54 pmLet me be clear. Joey has played good. Have you watched other college football this season? I’m dead serious Aguilar would start for Alabama this season. Honestly that pick six today is the first mistake he’s made. He’s one of the best players on the team easily. So calm under pressure, can create out of structure, great arm. We are very lucky to have him.

Re: EZU discussion
The thing with JAs quick release is he's making a pre snap read and deciding where he's letting it launch before the ball is snapped. Most of the time, that works great. Problem is, if the defender makes the same read and JA doesn't notice the jump, there's a good chance at a pick.
Obviously, that pick is on JA. But, if you go back and watch, the ball was thrown well before the receiver even made his cut. The defender just made a really good read (likely based on last week's film) and made a good play. It's a type of play I'm willing to let JA make because more often than not (unless film is showing other tendencies that defenses haven't caught on to yet), it's going to be a positive play.
