Game Balls — Gardner-Webb

Unread post by AppinVA » Sun Sep 03, 2023 9:10 am

I hope to remember to keep this up this year. Win or lose, there are always players and things worthy of mention.

1. Joey Aguilar — What a performance (11-13 174 yards and 4 touchdowns) in basically a half of football.

2. Students — It’s a holiday weekend, and not only did they stay on the mountain, they showed up, remained in the stands and were engaged the entire time.

3. 36,075 — The second highest all-time attended game at KBS (for two weeks, at least). And many stayed late. So, yay us.

Nick Ross had 12 tackles yesterday. He was all over the field and seemed to be the brightest spot on our defense. I know people are raving about Greens INT but for me it was Ross and Aguilar.

Hopper made a couple of nice plays as well. Scroggs INT was impressive.
Collins was most consistent rushing the passer.

Secondary played well for the most part but we did get bullied on WR screens.

Those screens were rub routes. Sean must have complained to the refs. Webb eliminates the "rub" guy.

Collins looked really good. Big Mike made a major impact on the 2nd half. Excited by both of them.

Rub routes are 100% allowed unless the rubber isn't running his route and is just setting the block before the reception... but, if that's what's happening, that's no longer a run route.

I noticed in the 1st half the rubber was doing what you are describing. He just stood there, about 3 yds in front of the receiver.

Oh then yeah, that's a penalty unless the receiver made it look like his route was too stop on the hitch and it facing the QB. Technically, that's still illegal but will never be called because the refs don't know what routes are supposed to be ran.

Ross had a good game - a lot of tackles as usual but he did uncharacteristically miss on two of their TDs
