I do not think we will see a year w/ results like 6-6 for a long time. Every season we face and overcome challenges. Every season our recruiting improves. I feel there is no one on our schedule we cannot handle. I love our schedule and the way it sets up. My expectiom is Sunbelt crown and New Years six spot. TIGMA!!!!!!!!!

We wish. The odds are against us, however.

Historically it is very rare for us to have two down seasons in the row. It has happened but not often.

I do appreciate your optimism. I am not sure I would take financial advice from you that is not more grounded in reality but for App State you are good with me.

The last time App had back to back seasons of .500 or less was 1972 and 1973.

I’m forty and my father was a junior the last time this happened. To say it doesn’t happen often is an understatement.

It has happened 4 times since the program started in 1928. And two of those times the first was was at .500 so only twice have we have two consecutive losing seasons. And never three years in a row. That is really pretty amazing.

We did have 81-82 with the coach that shall not be named.

Whatever the reason does not matter, but Appalachian is a football school that knows how to win and does win. Maybe the culture really started from day one in 1928. I mean the founder was alright with having football at App. Maybe he knew, or the ones he was listening to knew, that football was a vehicle that would take his school to heights other vehicles would not.

Maybe the climate is conducive to winning football.

There were several games last year where 1 or 2 mistakes cost us the game. We lost 6 games by a total of 35 points (5.8pts per game). We didn't get the breaks and that happens sometime. We will be fine.

Agree - this is why I am still optimistic - we let a few games get away from us in 2022. I still believe 2023/2024 will be a good year. We just need a few breaks and a few unproven players to step up. Very excited with the season that is a few months away!

Prior to 2022, we had finished at .500 five times. In three of those years (1932,1962, 1970) we bounced back with a winning record the next season ( an average of 2.3 wins better). In two years (1965, 1973) we followed up with a losing record (an average of two losses worse). My sense is that this is more like the former than the latter.

If you look, I made no comments on the article - just put it there for others to read - but we get ---

"Clark better hope we are better than 6-6." --- NO SHIT
"It's not. And if we go 6-6 or 6-7, Clark is probably done. And the guy who extended him..." --- FIRE 'EM ALL
"a small group of angry boosters." --- FROM THE DARK SIDE
"How about the expectation being better than 6-6 or better than 4th in the East? Seriously, how do you not get that?" --- DID I SAY THAT?
i am so old 6 and 6 would have been great dont act like you love football when we dont win every game

I remain cautiously optimistic about this season. Yes, I have concerns as anyone does when there is turnover at key positions, but it's just my personal choice to choose to believe the Apps will come through. I appreciate the information that folks share on this board and based on what I've read, I think there is plenty of reason for optimism. I've never been one who demanded that we reach the NY6 or else the season is a failure and I sometimes realize we are likely to lose a game (squaring off with a power team) however, I will take that small chance and pull for the miracle because that's how I enjoy the game. So, that said....the article is pretty underwhelming, but the most positive thing about the article is that we are included in it at all. Consider the company we are with in that article. How many other G5 teams went 6-6 and are not mentioned? That's what I take away from this. It's GREAT to be a MOUNTAINEER!

Hopefully we can get back to the point that we are actually better than most of the teams on the schedule rather than playing a bunch of one-score games and hoping we get lucky in most of them.

I doubt Clark survives a 6-6 finish. That would mean after 4 seasons he would have no Sun Belt Championships and back to back 500 records in the past two years. No doubt at that point most would feel the program is going backwards.

I like Clark personally, he’s a loyal App man and I believe a good man in general.
However, I didn’t really feel he was qualified for the job, he had never been a head coach or coordinator. He also seems a bit old school for todays game. I think his best asset is that the players seem to love him, and also likely helps with recruiting.

I hope he rights the ship before it’s too late. We all know that the big time alumni won’t hesitate to force a change.

Two points:
1) Clark was Co-Coordinator at App from 2016-2018
2) I think he's going to do significantly better than 6-6, but we will see pretty soon.

Clark better hope we are better than 6-6.

That $3 million buyout drops to $1 million in December and all it takes is a small group of angry boosters.
Angry influential boosters. Fixed it! lol
Indeed. Another 6-6 season and they will buy him out. I don’t think we go 6-6 again but we have boosters with the money set aside ready to go if we do. I fully expect to win 8 or more this year and I think he is safe with that.

My sources tend to confirm this , but with the caveat that circumstances can change.I am hoping to start 2-2 , or better , and finish with 8 or 9 wins .ECU looms LARGE .Win that one and we could get on a roll .Lose and the pressure turns up one heck of a lot.

Didn't ECU lose some key players, including their QB?
