Re: Early, but let's do it now
I know people will take it as a cop out to not give a straight answer, but... it depends.
Short answer is probably something like a minimum of 8-4. But I will personally also consider things like team health, how competitive we are week to week, and do we just generally appear to be back on the right track.

Man appfanjj, you don’t want much huh? I get thats what you want to happen but with an inexperienced QB and question marks in several places, that’s probably not likely. Probably what’s likely is 8-4 maybe 9-3 and with several pieces returning for ‘24 then I’m more with you. I’ll take it but don’t expect it.

This season? Warm weather, kids at the pool, a week at the beach or better yet, maybe a road trip to Yellowstone.
Come fall, I'd expect to see App football get bowl eligible and compete for the conference title, and improvements over last year for App's other teams with field hockey winning a trip to the NCAA tournament

Who do you think will win the Sun Belt East?AppFan11 wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 4:42 pmMan appfanjj, you don’t want much huh? How good do you think Berger can be if he is in fact our starter?
Predict our non conference record.
Just curious.

Considering our OOC schedule, the overall records you mention might well be enough to win the division.AppFan11 wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 4:42 pmMan appfanjj, you don’t want much huh? I don't know if a division title is in the cards, but I'd hope we haven't fallen so far that we're already talking about it as something that's unrealistic.

Appfanjj, the division winner will either be CC or Marshall. How good Berger will be next season is a tougher question. I’d expect he will be like most freshmen starters…. he’ll have good games and not so good games. Whoever SC believes will make the least mistakes will start. Regardless, the primary reason for picking CC is that they return an experienced QB.

I almost worry more about the D even with the O having a new QB. And I’m afraid of missing a bowl again.

Hope/want 8-4 or better. Feeling 6-6 . Based on last year, our schedule is loaded with “toss ups” ( JMU MARSHALL GASO CC SO MISS) slight underdog games (CHEAT,WYOMING,ECU) and slight favorite contests (GW GA ST ULM ODU). Just don’t see better than 7 wins. Expect BIG things in basketball ( both men’s and women's) volleyball, wrestling and field hockey. Not so bullish on softball, baseball and the tracks’.

Growth is acceptable. Growth in Clark as a Head Coach. Growth in Ponce as a play caller. Growth in the next wave of OL. Growth in our young QB, (whomever it shall be).

Re: Early, but let's do it now
If we have indeed fallen to the point that we can't even realistically talk about winning the division, then it's probably going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
I think we need, at minimum, 8-4 and a bowl win. Anything less than that might not be good enough.

Re: Early, but let's do it now
9-3
10-4
6-6
I'll throw some pepper on this topic. If we go 6-6 or less does Clark keep his job?
As for the OP I think we need to get 8-4 or we are in some doodoo. Losses to UNC, ECU, Marshall, and one more, maybe stink or JMU.

This. Being competitive in each game is a great indicator of promise, potential, and talent.

Re: Early, but let's do it now
I think the thing you have to keep remembering, is for those of us old enough, we are no longer the n the Socon or the SB of 2014. The conference is likely to best (strongest) of the G5 conferences. This is first time you can actually say that, specifically because UCF, Cinn, Houston have left the AAC for Big12. And we are doing it at a time when we have no experience at QB. Can we win the division…. sure we can… is it likely… probably not. I do think we will see both qbs at some point, and they will add a dimension that we have not had… the ability to run. I personally think it will be exciting to see this transition…. but be prepared for some bumps in the road.
