I think he saw some opportunities to improve the coaching staff and made good hires.
What's funny is at least two of the new hires were wanted when Clark was initially hired but there weren't enough funds...

Good post News, constructive!

I wouldn’t say the cupboards were half full, but do understand it’s bigger than Clark. This is the conversation I enjoy seeing here.
Fair. Maybe not half full. But 3/4 full but doors stuck open and the dishes falling out constantly...
We didn't have the "dishes" to score in the 2nd half, at home with 33k in the stands against JMU? We didn't have the "dishes" to beat Texas St.?

To put it quite simply. Moore set Satterfield up for success by creating the culture. Satterfield set up Drinkwitz to win games to get a better job. Drinkwitz did not pay it forward.
Yeah, no. A guy who was on campus 11 months in 2019 has 0 to do with what went on in 2022 and what’s going on in 2023. That’s even more so the case with the transfer portal. Sorry but you can’t make Eli your scape goat forever just because you didn’t get the access you wanted from him.

The logic also doesn’t follow when Clark goes from 10 wins to 9 to 6. That’s on his watch my man, no matter how much you personally like the guy.

This is year 4 for Clark. Is Drink off the hook this year?

We will see the turn for the better this season with 2024 being the return to prominence.

Thing is, if Clark loses one game, the negative nancys on here will want his head on a spike in front of KBS.

What practice equipment went missing? Seems difficult for those items to walk off.

Depends what the issues are causing the losses. If it's players making dumb mistakes, no. If it's out athleted, Drink played a big role in that. If it's bad play calling, no. If it's because of immaturity in specific position groups, Drink played a big role in that.

Forget hypotheticals. Not scoring in the second half against JMU, Drink? Looking totally unprepared and unmotivated at Texas St., Drink? I really want to know.

What is it that you want to know? Not trying to be a smart ass but do you want to know the truth or do you want to be told what you want to hear that validates your position? I only ask because there have been multiple discussions around this topic. The reasons have been given, but like the baseball thread, if the reader isn’t satisfied with the reply, then it is viewed as an “excuse” or “loser’s mentality.”

Honestly, I just want someone to explain to me how THOSE two losses aren't on Clark. Loosing at Costal, Marshall, and Southern, I get. All three was disappointing. But blowing a 25ish point halftime lead at home v. JMU and the Texas St. loss, turned and okay season into a very disappointing one. I just want to know how those two losses (specifically) are not on Clark.

Our current head coach is entering his fourth season. He fully owns the roster now. For better or worse. Hopefully better.

Quick and easy. Lack of depth and on field leadership due to Drink failing to recruit, destroying budgets, and destroying recruiting plans.

As 94, this has been discussed. You don't agree. You don't have to. But don't keep asking and expect a different answer.

Could Clark have been better those games? Certainly. But if you want to blame Clark exclusively, you're refusing to actually comprehend the issues that have been discussed.

No, he doesn't. He's only signed 3 classes he's recruited. He has two years of players that are his recruits with any kind of experience. And most of those were redshirted last year to help fix the unbalanced classes created by Drink.

Coach Clark I bet would agree he owns the roster.

I'd blame the NIL/transfer impact to the game WAY before I'd revert to mentioning Drink's impact on the 2023 roster.

Of course he's going to say that. Every coach is going to say that. But truth is, he doesn't have full depth of his guys. Of the top 10 ranked guys in 2020 class (primarily recruited by Drink), only 4 are still here (Noel, Passegiata, Haigler, Clarke).

Of those, only Noel and Clarke have played a lot of snaps. Clarke played mainly due to lack of bodies (I think we all saw he wasn't ready to play last year) and Noel was a late find by Coach Clark -- wasn't even recruited by Drink.

If you can't see how having basically an entire class no longer be in campus during the time they should be the on field leaders, I don't know what else to say.

Fully owning the roster isn't the same as having personally recruited every player on it.

Can you imagine walking into a meeting and blaming your predecessor four years removed for this year's performance. Time to move on from Drink guys.

Some of the "well actually" stuff posted on this message board after problems/losses literally sounded like stuff a coaching staff would say. I've seen it before with different programs when I would call out things going bad. And it's natural. Coaches want to remain coaches (same with trainers, staffers, etc), so they filter word out to explain why bad things are happening and keep public opinion from heating their seat up.

End of the day, Clark's buyout drops from $3 million to $1 million on Dec. 1, a week after the Georgia Southern game. The number of angry rich donors needed to pay his buyout will drop on that date as well, so if he feels there's a chance of not winning championships as he's preached for 3+ years, he and the staff he hired are going to temper expectations.
