Cobb has done a good job with fundraising, facilities, etc.
The Pollard hire for baseball was obviously a great one. Women's bball coach seems pretty good too.
But the guy has straight butchered the bball program with poor decision making. Then throw in the controversey with Moore's departure. A guy with 3 natty titles should be able to write his on ticket.
Hopefully the thing with Satterfield works out.
Doug Justice for AD if Cobb leaves.

We're not really going there again, are we?

Moore would have stayed until he keeled over on the sideline at the age of 97 as we continued to play jv football...

If Charlie has any kind of career coach or decent mentor he is being told to leave now.

Are you counting men's basketball as been so successful? Women's soccer with the sexual improprieties by the coach? Baseball credit should be given in part to the coach being hired by Laney?Saint3333 wrote:App has never had the success in ALL sports in any 8 year period as they have under Cobb. I would say that getting us into the FBS is his biggest accomplishment. Doug Justice??? Are you kidding? I'm sorry but a guy who handles game ops isn't in position to take over a D1 athletic program. The bar has to be set much higher the next time we hire an AD.IGgreer wrote:Cobb has done a good job with fundraising, facilities, etc.

When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Re: Charlie Cobb - So Miss Does Not Renew AD Contract
As far as basketball goes, the only thing I'm still angry over is the 3rd time charm hire of Buzz.
We should have known better - The day I found out about that hire, I was pissed.
Capel hire was an effect of the Buzz vanishing act. We got caught with our shorts down.
However, I'm not convinced yet that Capel isn't growing into the role, the role he wasn't ready for when hired.

Re: Charlie Cobb - So Miss Does Not Renew AD Contract
It's perfectly fine to credit Laney with the Pollard hiring. But, if you do that, you also have to "credit" him for the Ben Popoola hiring in women's soccer. Ben was not particularly successful as our WSOC coach and as we now know, he became involved with one or more of his players and had to be removed for cause. Charlie Cobb is the guy who had the courage to step in and clean up the mess. And it was a mess--because Ben's wife was the executive assistant to Chancellor Peacock and recording secretary to the Board of Trustees with incredible inside power and influence university-wide. Charlie's wife was a volunteer assistant soccer coach--and very innocently became the victim of a vicious gossip campaign said to have been spearheaded by Ben's wife and friends. In the end, both Ben and his wife departed university employment. The Cobbs were the good guys on white horses in an otherwise sordid affair. I just needed to clear the air on this one.JCline0429 wrote:Are you counting...Women's soccer with the sexual improprieties by the coach? I believe that Charlie's wife became a hired coach after the incident. I agree that Laney could be partially to blame and whomever hired Poopola"s wife is partially to blameasu66 wrote:It's perfectly fine to credit Laney with the Pollard hiring.
