September 1, 2007

Unread post by Yosefus » Fri May 19, 2023 6:29 pm

Scrolling thru YouTube, and I've been drinking. Sorry for that ahead of time. What magic that was and a magical season where the cards all fell our way and a huge spanking of Delaware to finish it off. Dear Lord I hope and dream the magic comes back and hangs on to our kids for many years to come. Magic like 2007 and we will be in a 12 team playoff with the storied blue bloods again! Let's hope and pray this year will be better than the last!

A down year for App would be a good year for most programs...

2004 was a year that felt very similar to this past season. Our DBs couldn't stop anyone who could throw the ball. We had a stud QB and we could score but were losing shootouts. The landscape is different today but 2005 was a very different season. I see no reason that App can't turn things around and I fully expect it to happen. Our pattern is to follow a down year with a strong one. The Apps will show up hungry and with a chip on their shoulder. I think 2023 will be a fun season. Yes, I'm a homer.

My expectations every year is that we go undefeated and win the championship (Belt and however far we can go). I'm realistic as well and know that is really difficult. I see no reason why we can't bounce back and have a great season. As a suffering Panthers fan I've grown accustomed to disappointment but every off season I hope for the best.

There are some reasons why we could bounce back such a little easier schedule, improved strength and conditioning, upgrades in the portal and our staff is high on Burger but he is still new, we are thin on OL, a lot of unknowns on defense, and we don't quite know our starting 5 on the OL either. The "pay to play" now we will also have to constantly look over our shoulders with tampering from P5s. This is a wildcard year but if we win 8-9 games I will be happy.

It should be a little easier. We have just 1 P5 and the start of the season isn’t as rough. We also host Marshall, GSU, and Coastal Carolina. Only rough road games should be UNC and JMU.

I doubt we will be favored on the road at Wyoming.

I wouldn’t not be shocked either way. No matter our expectations I expect media to have us low. All the college preview magazines except for Phil Steele come out over next 3-10 days and I’ll be interested to see what they pick.

We play Wyoming, UNC and ECU in 2023
All bowl teams last year.
We played Citadel and Bobby Morris in 2022.

Wyoming is a team that we should be able to beat. Gardner-Webb is better than both of those FCS teams but we avoid the SEC and get key opponents in Boone. That’s why I say the schedule will be a little easier. Not by a ton but a little bit. It does depend on how good ECU and Wyoming turn out to be. GWU is a game that I could see being a lot closer than Citadel was for sure.

Not sure what year and what playoff game but I spoke to a man yesterday that said his first and only game to App …he experienced his first “streaker” across the field I think it was Youngstown state but I honestly can’t remember. I was there and it was awesome!

That is the day that all previous diplomas and subsequent diplomas from Appalachian increased in value.

App State was recognized as a legitimate football school nationally and the BIG TEN Network became relevant.

It has brought great things to our beloved alma mater; we have yet to fully realize everything that win in Ann Arbor has made possible.

The Burger would be either a tasty meal choice for many or most likely the QB of choice for Appalachian State Football for the next several seasons. See other thread's regarding the roster.

Yesterday I was working at the Gboro Sci Center and at the last planetarium show someone comes in with a Michigan shirt on and I make a comment such as "Michigan!" and he replies back as if we are both pro-Michigan. I then mention I am an App State grad, and he just groans.

If I lose this job over this thread I will expect recompense, but it will still be worth it to hear the groan of this guy.

From the west we trade Texas State and Troy for Southern Miss and ULM. We beat the eventual Top 20 Sun Belt champs and got stomped by a losing team that fired its coach.

USM has a great running back, but was inconsistent at times last year. They beat eventual Cotton Bowl Champs Tulane on the road and went toe to toe with Coastal, but got blown out by Georgia State and squeaked by Arkansas State.

At ULM could be tricky. Looking at their scores last season, they played a lot of close games in the second half of the season. And it's right after the Wyoming trip.

We always play well at Georgia State for some reason. At JMU will be tough as they'll be hostile. At ODU could be a good day.

Plus, all three non-conference games will be a challenge. ECU might be picked 2nd in the American behind Tulane. Chapel Hill will be a tough day for the defense as evident last season and Wyoming will be physical at elevation.
