Could be paywalled. Let me know if it is.

Can you say "slippery slope?" Making high school athletes semi-professionals.

All I could find was pertaining to the NCAA rather than NCHSAA.

The State Legislature killed the NIL for high school

Those who use the excuse that kids in poverty can't afford sports equipment like shoes, cleats, a glove, etc. Horrible argument if that is one. I'm glad my high school athlete parent days are done. Unbelievable

Entirely, Rek? i.e. so it is now just a red herring?

I’ve coached at 5 schools in NC and SC, all it took was 1 call (by HC, AD or Principal) and the equipment was there. No kid went lacking proper gear.

Can you imagine some 5 star junior stud football player all of a sudden rolling into school in a new car he really can't afford and who is (understandably) clueless about taxes?

How long ago was this? - It wasn't that way back in the day - I have bought shoes and equipment for my players

We did have some cross-over in your earlier years - We couldn't get sponsorships, we couldn't advertise in the stadium area - Football was of course treated the best but in baseball I had to find ways to raise money, we had sales like candy sales and if each player sold X number that would cover his jacket, Y would cover his hat and shirts, etc., and we got virtually nothing from "football" boosters club. I have personally paid for items for guys whose families were struggling AND I don't regret one penny

I was primarily football for wrestling I had to do candy sales. The hs in my area have players ask for sponsorships, which I’m ok with.

Man if only that worked for science classes and being funded in a way where a call would get me needed equipment. I can dream I guess.
