Re: G5 Poll
It reminds me of when Appalachian was ranked number one and Michigan was ranked number five.
It is a return to when Appalachian and Georgia Southern were always ranked number one when they met each other.
It is also a guide to see who should be the top G-5 program to make the college football invitational tournament.

Re: G5 Poll
Not a fan, there’s already an actual “coach’s poll” for the FBS. I especially dislike the lack of transparency in who coaches ranked if this poll is to actually be used for postseason placement.

Re: G5 Poll
Would you rather be in the “real” Top 25…. of course. However it does seem that “we” are moving closer to the super conference model. There was an article in the Athletic last week, where it discussed a private equity guy was talking with some G5 administrators, about getting ahead of the curve. It actually mentioned the AAC, C-USA and the SunBelt merging and set up geographic divisions and negotiating bigger tv deals than either could get on their own…..I can’t imagine the organizational effort something like that would take but if we are left with a super conference….. then it may make a lot of sense to create our own G5 super conference. We certainly could negotiate a bigger tv deal…. don’t you think?

Re: G5 Poll
Josh Pate on his show Late Kick made a great point about the G5... Realistically the G5 has no shot at winning an expanded playoff. At best you win 2 games. So why participate?
If that's the case then have a separate playoff based on spending/revenue. Have it run concurrently as the P5 playoff and have P5 & Networks buy in to its promotion with the understanding that during the regular season we both P5/G5 match ups still occur.
Relegation will never happen but in 10 years CFB will shake its self up again and we'll good teams can make it then.

Re: G5 Poll
How are we not already in a new 1-AA?
Sure we COULD make the CFB but we couldn't win it....Look me in the eyes Stonewall and tell me you believe App could be Alabama in January.
The best we can get is guarantees via state law or NCAA rule that P2 schools have to play G5 schools...which they will b/c it sells tickets...in 5 years ppl aren't going to be interested in NCSU v Missouri. They're gonna want to see App come to town.

Couldn’t you say the same thing about half of the teams in the P5 sect?kornegaylw wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 7:35 amJosh Pate on his show Late Kick made a great point about the G5... Realistically the G5 has no shot at winning an expanded playoff. At best you win 2 games. So why participate?

Re: G5 Poll
Exactly! There might be 15-20 programs that are truly good enough to win a multi-round playoff within the next decade or more. Only 24 teams have won a college football championship since 1965, with 14 teams since the BCS began in 1998, and just 6 since the CFP began in 2014.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 7:53 amCouldn’t you say the same thing about half of the teams in the P5 sect?kornegaylw wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 7:35 amJosh Pate on his show Late Kick made a great point about the G5... The only time we should consider our own playoff and poll is if/when the P2(3) breakaway. It's ridiculous to basically state our best teams are below the likes of Vanderbilt, Syracuse, BC, Illinois, and others.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Re: G5 Poll
I would challenge that theory for basketball. I don’t know that anyone had NC State, FAU or SDSU on their bingo cards to reach the Final 4 over the last two years.AppinVA wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 8:11 amOr the basketball tournament.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 7:53 amCouldn’t you say the same thing about half of the teams in the P5 sect?kornegaylw wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 7:35 amJosh Pate on his show Late Kick made a great point about the G5... I would be very interested in NCSU vs. Mizzou. Especially if Drinkwitz is still the coach.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 7:39 amHow are we not already in a new 1-AA?

Re: G5 Poll
There is too many G5 bottom feeders rooting for this even though they won't have a shot at this either. Top G5 programs like App State, Boise St, Fresno St., Memphis, etc.. will have a decision to make soon about which side of the fence they belong. Unfortunately, that decision will likely be made by others and not us.

Re: G5 Poll
The only way the G5 should agree to this is if it is part of a bigger tv deal. My bet is that this is being pushed by ESPN to market our games for the CFP spot and how it has CFP ramifications. It may be good for us. The MWC, SUNBELT and American need to shop our tv package as a group. It scares me to leave ESPN but ESPN is losing its grip on America. Streaming has and is going to hurt them.

Re: G5 Poll
Rekdiver you probably could sue the Big10 and SEC for collusion….. probably can’t stop it but you could get $$$ for damages….I still think it would be in our interest to be on the front side of a change with G5…… and at least get more $$$$ for our program instead of being passive and letting things happen around us.
