You need a guy that is a) good enough to be the backup next year and b) willing to wait a year to be the starter.

There are G5 we can not compete with also. In fact at least one is in the belt.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:55 pmWe are never going to have the money to compete with these P5s so I have fully expected it. I just hope we are able to get some good ones from FCS, like Helms, that would want to move up and that we at least beat our piers our in the Sun Belt.
I didn't think Texas got to where thet are by missing on talent...he was more highly rated than any QB that has ever sniffed lil old APP ST out of HS.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 5:47 am1) He wasn’t any good. The game was too fast for him and his timing was horrible and he wasn’t going to grow to fit our plan. What made you think he was a layup as QB #2?Black Saturday wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 5:34 am1) Anyone know why Wright didn't make it, looks like that would be layup that he would be at least number #2? QB backup quality and 2) DL worries the crap out of me at the moment. 3) Back to my earlier thought, the success of our program should sell itself, I'm not gathering that we are having our choice to a degree in transfers or HS recruits.........but maybe that is the "homer" in my thinking?
2) We will be ok with DL. We are likely looking for depth at NT, but we have enough moving parts that we can take a DE as well. 3) You are forgetting about that smalll factor of NIL.

Everyone misses on talent. It happens. I don’t know what his rating was coming out of high school but I’d put money on it being inflated because of the name on the front of the jersey.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 2:17 pmI didn't think Texas got to where thet are by missing on talent...he was more highly rated than any QB that has ever sniffed lil old APP ST out of HS.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 5:47 am1) He wasn’t any good. NIL is a bitch aint it
I'll believe we are ok when we are stopping the run and causing havoc in the paasing game from the DL.
That is true. There are good FCS and D2 players out there that can help us for sure.bcoach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 1:50 pmThere are G5 we can not compete with also. I watched some of the FCS playoffs. Furman, South Dakota St., and Montana have players that could start for APP.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 11:00 pmThat is true. If they can start for APP they can start for other teams. We will never win the money race and I don't want to.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 9:42 amI watched some of the FCS playoffs. No question. Most of the SDSU players are in this current draft class but a couple of them are back and could transfer.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 9:42 amI watched some of the FCS playoffs. Sounds like Ponce is going after him. Recruiting and coaching him at Miami must be helping. We’re 1 of 4to show significant interest. Miss St, Ga State, and UCF. Definitely has the talent to be the guy in 2025, needs a chance.
True, there is no "I" in team. To go along with this theme, a few years back the local high school team up my way was kicking arse. However, they relied mostly on one player to carry the team. They were 7-0 and heading into their last 3 games against weak competition. Well, the "one player" was injured early in game 8 with a season ending injury. The team finished 7-3 and out of the playoffs. I still can't believe it. LOL Next man up was a foreign concept.AppWyo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 9:22 amYou really do not want the best players, you want the second best players, the ones that rely on their teammates and do not try to do it all. You see teams all the time who rely on one or a few players to do it all and when they get hurt the team folds. Other teams that do not rely on just a few players tend to excel. Appalachian just seems to recruit the right players that are coachable, do not have academic problems, and have good character.
