Re: Another Portal Loss
Agreed. I hate to lose him. He was in prime position to have a huge year.
I would imagine we have some younger players, like Spellman, who are ready to step in. I also wonder if we will perhaps look to some FCS stars? There has to be some good ones in FCS who would be interested in coming to a place like App.

Re: Another Portal Loss
This one hurts a lot. Time for Spellman to step up.

Re: Another Portal Loss
Definitely. Spellman is my only slimmer of hope for today. Hopefully he will be one of the first high recruits to make an impact.

Re: Another Portal Loss
And there lies the Catch 22. Say Spellman steps up and has a great year. Are we having this same conversation next year? It’s the world we live in.

Re: Another Portal Loss
Does anyone have any context on the reason for McLeod's decision? I understand that a new Defensive Coaching staff this year so some of it may be a byproduct of gaining alignment from the entire defensive players that this is how we are going to run the defense this year. Maybe that is part of issue, maybe something totally different.

Re: Another Portal Loss
We are never going to have the money to compete with these P5s so I have fully expected it. I just hope we are able to get some good ones from FCS, like Helms, that would want to move up and that we at least beat our piers our in the Sun Belt.

I would imagine NIL played a role.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:50 pmDoes anyone have any context on the reason for McLeod's decision? Re: Another Portal Loss
He is being offered guaranteed money by SEC, Big Ten, and I'm sure some ACC teams that we simply can't match. Jalen is a legit NFL prospect who I would imagine can start for several P5 teams who are offering him.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:50 pmDoes anyone have any context on the reason for McLeod's decision? We have to stop using that term. This is not NIL. NIL is getting paid for your name, image, likeness and you don't have a guaranteed amount because revenue for it can vary. He is being offered guaranteed money simply for his services on the field and nothing to do with his names or for marketing. These teams just want to upgrade the starting lineup or depth and they are willing to give out guaranteed money for it.hapapp wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:57 pmI would imagine NIL played a role.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:50 pmDoes anyone have any context on the reason for McLeod's decision? Re: Another Portal Loss
because they can. App cannot. That is what sucks. they can shell out that kind of money for "depth" and if that person never sees the field, it doesn't really matter to them, but it is taking a starter and budding star away from App.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 3:00 pmWe have to stop using that term. Re: Another Portal Loss
Yes. G5’s (especially App) will be used as a catalyst for Players (and coaches) to vault into the P5 ranks. Good and bad thing. Means recruits see the success we have and come here for a year or two and then make the jump to P5.

I think this one is pretty obvious.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 3:54 pmWhat information led you to that conclusion?hapapp wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:57 pmI would imagine NIL played a role.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:50 pmDoes anyone have any context on the reason for McLeod's decision? Nil is pretty ridiculous. Similar to the lawsuit we saw from players to get paid. I would think we may see the same the same when their funds are pulled. This is now fully a business.
