FWIW, I saw Bjorn play at App several times also saw his appearances on the Letterman show when Letterman tried desperately to embarrass him.

Saw him play while he was playing for Appalachian.
He would have been with the Giants when Letterman was ridiculing him (repeatedly called him Nitmo, Nitmo, Nitmo over and over again) in a condescending way, but the legendary critical hit was not when he was playing for them. Can't remember what the occasion was, however.

When Bjorn Nitmo was on David Letterman he asked him if he kicked barefooted in college and Bjorn said, "Oh no, it's too cold in Boone."

Letterman mocked him many times as Bjorn appeared on Letterman's late night show on numerous occasions. Considering all that happened to Bjorn during his career and lifetime, not a darn thing was humorous.

Bjorn didn't have to agree to come on the show... He obviously enjoyed it.

But yes, nothing funny about his head trauma.

I never thought he was mocking him, he just liked the name.

That was my impression. It was all fun, not mocking. He was having fun with a name that was very unusual for American football. At the time, Bjorn's head trauma wasn't known, to interpreting Letterman's jokes based on that context seems a bit revisionist, although I do get that in retrospect it stings. His head trauma is nothing short of a tragedy.

The head trauma came later in a preseason game when he was with the Falcons

I'm aware the final concussion happened then, but my understanding was that he had had three concussions during his career and there is a cumulative effect. I'm no expert to be sure. Regardless, it wasn't an issue at the time Letterman made his jokes and that was my point.

I already knew the answer. I was posting it to see what members knew he was a place kicker and not a punter. I saw Bjorn play on several occasions as well as seeing him on arsehole Letterman's show.

Speaking of kickers, I was in a week long insurance class in St Paul, Minnesota back in 2000 with Scott Norwood.
