That's a difference-maker on offense. Lamb and Thomas could randomly scramble for 20 yards to kick start a drive on a 3rd and 6. That in turn makes WR's and TE's open, a RB might have an extra half second to hit a hole because the LB waited to see if the QB kept the ball.

Re: Spring Ball
I was born in eastern Virginia and moved to NC when I was 13 and had picked the Reds as my team around '75. Bench was my favorite player and I used to pick 5 as my jersey number even in old man church softball. I won some money off of a coworker in '90 when they pummeled the A's. I've been a long suffering fan for years now. My first MLB game I attended at age 50 was a Reds v Oriole game in Camden Yards. Got to see Votto jack a homer andBambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 6:42 amFrom NC, i was a Reds fan as they were the team. "Big Red Machine". Chapman hit 102 on the gun. Saw them again in DC a few years ago.

Re: Spring Ball
Speaking of the Reds. Bill (BH2oson), Bruce (Kiddbrewer) and I took a little road trip to Cincinnati to watch the Reds play while we were at App State. The date was September 16th, 1988. Tom Browning (RIP) was pitching that night. The Reds beat the Dodgers 1-0!!! Tom did something no other Reds pitcher had ever done. What he did that night had only happened 11 time in MLB history. Yes, we got to see a PERFECT GAME!!! It was awesome to be there that night.

Re: Spring Ball
Well since I'm much older than you guys my following of the Redlegs started years earlier - My first game was in Crosley Field, it was against the Braves - Warren Spahn was pitching and Frank Robinson hit a homer over the left field wall and broke out a window in the old "factory" on the other side. One of our radio stations carried the Reds games. Joe Nuxhall ----

Re: Spring Ball
We've chosen to not do a Spring game after losing $100k+ each for the poorly attended ones we did have in the recent past. They aren't free to put on and if less than 5,000 attend, it's not worth wasting 1 of 15 spring practices to do.
Hell, one year they had a spring practice in Charlotte at a high school to try to lure the Charlotte alumni (largest group of alumni) and there were maybe 2,000 people there. Maybe.
Spring games don't draw the attendance needed to make it worth it.

I was there also. I thought it was a good recruiting idea for Charlotte and upper state SC.

Re: Spring Ball
If they were to try it at some point in future, should do it around spring semester open house, family weekend, etc if they have events like that... could be a decent chance to pick up new Yosef Club members. The newbie students and families eat up Family weekend in the fall timeframe.
Maybe marketing would be better thought out, etc.

Re: Spring Ball
They just don’t seem interested in doing it. Several of us talked with coaches and administrators about an event and to a person they were all for it. We put a proposal together for them of what it could look like and grow in too. Since submitting last summer, we have heard crickets. So that tells me that they either aren’t interested in doing one or that they can’t justify the cost.
So here is my suggestion to all on here. If you are going to attend one of the Yosef Tour stops, I suggest that each and everyone of you bring it up in both casual conversation and publicly in the Q&A. Another option is for season ticket holders to submit their thoughts on the end of year survey over this. The administration either doesn’t want to see the interest or they are willfully ignoring the base. But there are avenues available for them to be asked their perceived obstinance to the idea.

Re: Spring Ball
Drinkwitz sort-of had one in 2019, but it was labelled a "scrimmage."
https://appstatesports.com/news/2019/3/ ... mmage.aspx
Before that, Satterfield had a couple early in his tenure, 2013 and 2014. The 2014 game was on a Friday night.

The Charlotte scrimmage was in 2013.

I feel it's wrong to talk about how spring games have failed when we've only had one in the last 9 years. The fanbase in 2013 and 2014 was badly fractured from the coaching change and FBS move and it took a while for attendances to get back up. I feel a spring game nowadays, coupled with a baseball home weekend, could be successful given the demand.

Re: Spring Ball
I know it won't ever happen but I think it would be great to bring in a regional team for a scrimmage game. I would think a scrimmage/spring game against Charlotte or ETSU would be both beneficial to each team and would garner bigger crowds. As suggested play it around noon with baseball to follow at 4ish. If it's done around this time of the month maybe you have a shot at decent weather. It can always be cancelled if it looks terrible.

Re: Spring Ball
Agreed. Not marketed very well... Friday night...when most of the fanbase drives from hours away. Make it Saturday just like GameDay...if the weather is good, people tailgate like a GameDay...it was doomed to fail, from an attendance perspective, if on a Friday night...T-Dog wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 9:35 amDrinkwitz sort-of had one in 2019, but it was labelled a "scrimmage."
