Returning production
ESPN has an article up that rates all 133 FBS teams based upon "returning production".We rank 131 just ahead of Ga State and Kent at 33%.ECU is one slot ahead of us and 34%.Wyoming is 4th at 83%.USA tops the Belt at #13 and 77%.Elsewhere, different article , they have JMU as the conference favorite at 24th nationally.

So what they are saying is we need some guys to step up, big time?Stonewall wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 4:47 pmESPN has an article up that rates all 133 FBS teams based upon "returning production".We rank 131 just ahead of Ga State and Kent at 33%.ECU is one slot ahead of us and 34%.Wyoming is 4th at 83%.USA tops the Belt at #13 and 77%.Elsewhere, different article , they have JMU as the conference favorite at 24th nationally.

Re: Returning production
Replacing QB1 plays the biggest role in that number, although JMU is replacing theirs as well. They did bring in a R-Sr. from Arizona/USF. Not sure how substantial that is though. We'll certainly have a lot to prove.

Re: Returning production
JMU, rightfully so. They did what they were supposed to but weren't as good when their QB was out. They are serious being a football school. Good coach.

I love it when we are considered the underdog. Maybe the guys find that chip on the shoulder we are known for and we suprise everyone.

Re: Returning production
When you consider production lost and the fact we replaced a ton of coaches, since many have said coach turnover hurts big time, we should seriously expect about 5 wins. I expect preseason magazines to pick us mid tier in the SBC because of our name but for most others I could see close to last in the east.
I’m happy with staff changes we made though and believe we could exceed expectations. I admit I’ll be ecstatic if we somehow get 7 wins though. Anything more than 7 and I think Clark is a COY candidate. If he somehow wins more than 7 with all the turnover on staff and roster then that would be a very impressive season. We will see how it goes.

I guess I’m spoiled! I’ll admit it. I suspect it’s going to be tough for me to get through next year . As I look at the schedule I really only see one “for sure”win. (GWU) can’t even put ULM in the “for sure” category since it’s away. Everyone else looks ,at best, like a toss up. Schedule, loss of production and almost a completely new coaching staff make it hard for me to be optimistic.

Rising costs coupled with declining performance is not a sustainable model. Another year of that trend is not going to be pretty.

Re: Returning production
I wouldn’t put gwu in the guaranteed column. The gave ga southern a run last year and have a lot of returning production..pop5app wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 6:59 amBlack Saturday wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 6:05 amyes, as spoiled fans we will have our mettle tested this year.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 1:21 amWhen you consider production lost and the fact we replaced a ton of coaches, since many have said coach turnover hurts big time, we should seriously expect about 5 wins. You are correct! I was born in Shelby and have always kept up with GW but I was trying to be as optimistic as possible. That in itself is a sad statement.

Re: Returning production
I'm cautiously optimistic about next year. Even with a heavy does of pessimism, GW, GA State, ODU, and ULM should be wins. I'd say Southern Miss will probably be a win as well. I think anywhere from 5-8 wins is probable.

Re: Returning production
If the defensive ends and defensive backs that we brought in this class, especially the transfers and Juco guys, are as good as predicted, we should be back to our winning ways and I would anticipate 9 wins at least. If those defensive guys struggle, we may very well struggle again. We got a couple ends from the Big 10 that saw significant playing time fo their teams, let's hope that can transfer over to a Sun Belt schedule.

Re: Returning production
For me, it is the unknown of how our new QB will play.. whomever it is. I hope they are all conference...will not know until in live action...
With that said, I vote App. St. to go 1-0 each week and every week in the weekly prediction.

Re: Returning production
A short 2 years ago we were in the driver seat, along with Cincy, Boise, SDSU, to be the Georgia of the G5 (just steamroll everyone by 30 no matter who it is)...now we dont have a guaranteed win on the schedule? Guess that's why they play the game. If we go .500 or less, fan base will lose it's mind, rightfully so. This board has tamed my expectations alot which is probably a good thing.boonetown1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 7:35 amI wouldn’t put gwu in the guaranteed column. I know of no team who has any "guaranteed wins" on the schedule -
"Montani Semper Liberi"
