I agree we recruit so much better talent than The U., we wouldn't want any other their players.

Re: Ponce Again
I’d take a flyer on this kid if he’d be interested. Years of eligibility left…who knows. He was a Top 25 QB recruit and those are guys we could never sniff straight out of HS. The last former top QB recruit who bounced up the mtn from a Power 5 worked out well, maybe lighting strikes twice.

I saw that and that is why I wondered if there was a remote chance.

Re: Ponce Again
Ponce didn’t come here to bring a QB. He came here to coach OUR QB. The only thing Garcia has better than Burger is stars and we’ve seen what that means.

What is the multiplier on a UNC win? It’s worth at least 3, maybe 4 SBC wins for me.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 4:57 pmI’m ok with 5 wins as long as those wins are against UNC, ECU, GaSo, Coastal and Marshall

Re: Ponce Again
There are players at Miami that I'm sure we would want who could help us but there are also many that we would not want. I believe he is the one that entered the portal who is rumored to be difficult. Ponce knows who they have that we could use or not and I'll trust his judgment on if we go after him or others. Supposedly his parents are hard to deal with and so is he.HkyMtneer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:09 pmI’d take a flyer on this kid if he’d be interested. Years of eligibility left…who knows. Re: Ponce Again
I'm sure that by now the Portal database can give a breakdown of the players who are seeking a transfer to include some of their reasoning- obtained directly or indirectly through their social media. For example if player A has publicly bitched about the team, coaches, etc or the same has come from family members that's a red flag. If that player is transferring due to a perceived lack of playing time is he going to also be an issue wherever he lands if he doesn't immediately crack the lineup? I read this morning about a highly recruited QB for Florida who flipped from Miami because they had a bad record last year and now wants out of his UF commitment because his NIL has apparently fallen through. Do we really want to chase P5 QB's simply because of where they signed originally even if they haven't really played? Isn't Burger supposed to be really good (potentially)?

This kid spent his last year of high school at Grayson- same school as Chase Brice. Another coincidence...AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 12:06 amThere are players at Miami that I'm sure we would want who could help us but there are also many that we would not want. Re: Ponce Again
To be fair, I said no thanks because we already have three QBs on the roster that we haven’t seen play a snap in college football, why add another? Is it because he is from a P5 school? That doesn’t mean he is better.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:08 pmI agree we recruit so much better talent than The U., we wouldn't want any other their players.
The portal is where you fill needs, not shop for shiny new toys. The margin of error is too small that you can afford to take a roster spot on a flyer. Just my opinion.

We need that roster spot for an OL, not another QB.HkyMtneer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:09 pmI’d take a flyer on this kid if he’d be interested. Years of eligibility left…who knows. Re: Ponce Again
Getting Ponce back delivers some heavy value for App:
- He's familiar with the system, staff, admins, etc. Other than meeting players/recruits, he's ready to rock-n-roll
- A two year contract delivers the stability our program desperately needs to right the ship.

Hey Ponce and Sloan...if you are reading this I have a 3 bedroom condo close to Watauga high school that I am putting on the market soon.Bootsy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 9:12 amGetting Ponce back delivers some heavy value for App:

For my part, having Ponce and Scot back on the mountain is awesome. They may have to live in travel trailers in the KBS parking lot because housing is so scarce in Watauga County (LOL), but these are outstanding hires.
