Miami fans are saying Gattis might be on his way out this week (allegedly working on a Penn State parachute), so it was a good time for Ponce to get out.boonetown1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:03 pmIn hindsight, I guess it’s good we got drink over gattis though.

Re: Ponce Again
Ponce is now reunited with the best QB he has ever recruited. Let's see if he can push past the Goat and others the next 4 years.

Re: Ponce Again
Good decision all around.
I’ve seen a few folks here and on Twitter asking, “why would he leave Miami for App State?”
1. It’s a promotion. He was QB coach at Miami, now he’s an OC.
2. Miami has been so irrelevant for the past decade or so, I don’t think it’s insane to say App is just as good, if not a better, place to springboard from. We’ve now had an HC go to the ACC and SEC as well as an OC go to the SEC. We may always be a stepping stone, but we are a better stepping stone than Miami.

It has nothing to do with promotions, moving up, etc. He simply found out the grass isn't always greener.

Not to mention that there’s no job in the United States more guaranteed to get you a P5 OC shot than to be our OC for one season.MrCraig wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 7:10 pmGood decision all around.

Nailed it with this hire! I am really excited for the possibilities next season and moving forward. Hopefully this staff can stay together on the Rock for a few seasons and get the Mountaineers rolling again. Looks like a great group of recruits coming in to build with as well. Can't wait for another season of Saturdays at the Rock! GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!

I explained to all you clowns on other thread this was going to happen, crazy thing is the staff had no idea and the almighty AD didn't know this either.. contract was signed at cocktail hour had to iron out details and drop the news to Watts during the day.
Ware and Watts may start looking, tired of their same roles....

Unless DG has changed how things are done, DG definitely knew about it as he has to approve the contract before sent out..DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 8:15 pmI explained to all you clowns on other thread this was going to happen, crazy thing is the staff had no idea and the almighty AD didn't know this either.. contract was signed at cocktail hour had to iron out details and drop the news to Watts during the day.

But, I know DG has also given Clark more money and freedom. So, maybe this is some of the new freedom?

Re: Ponce Again
DG was flapping his gums at the basketball games telling Yosef members, probably 2/3 of you guys, that 'Watts was the guy" -- this even got back to Watts... Sure Gillin knows the contract, but after Clark made his decision.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 8:18 pmUnless DG has changed how things are done, DG definitely knew about it as he has to approve the contract before sent out..DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 8:15 pmI explained to all you clowns on other thread this was going to happen, crazy thing is the staff had no idea and the almighty AD didn't know this either.. contract was signed at cocktail hour had to iron out details and drop the news to Watts during the day.

As long as we don't run up the middle on 3rd and short AND 4th and short in multiple games next year I don't care who the OC is. Would love to see OMG what will they run next play and the defenses not have a clue.

Then that is definitely a different process than years past.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 8:21 pmDG was flapping his gums at the basketball games telling Yosef members, probably 2/3 of you guys, that 'Watts was the guy" -- this even got back to Watts... Re: Ponce Again
I second this. Among all the power 5 teams we’ve played including Clemson and Georgia, Miami fans were the most cocky and least knowledgeable.appstate24 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 5:57 pmLET’S GOOO!!!
Miami fans are quite possibly the dumbest fan base in the country… They are stuck in the 90’s and everyone is a scapegoat for their problems. The QB guru is certainly not their problem.
So pumped! Welcome back Frank!!

Reading their message board is cringeworthy. I’m sure they have some real fans, I’m not sure how they put up with it.

Re: Ponce Again
We have our share of "knowledgeable " authors of cringe worthy crap as well. Do they have folks who readily advocate firing coaches regardless of financial constraints or simply after a .500 season? Fans of "The U" really are living in the 80's and 90's and they must expect championships but at the same time recruiting should encompass a 50 mile radius around Coral Gables.

Re: Ponce Again
Indeed and I'm excited to see it. The thing that is most important here is that Ponce picked Burger and he was the one who recommended Joey so he has 2 QBs he really likes. We have an OC this year who has the QBs he really likes so if the offense is going to click then it should happen with this combo.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:32 pmThe play we used most to integrate the TE this past season is a Satt/Ponce staple. And it works better with a mobile QB.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:21 pmBoomerang!! Glad to see this!! Always great to see someone come back. Speaks to the mantra...There is just something about these mountains and this place!!
Hope we continue to use TE as Barbay did last year.
