I gotta give it to Clark, he’s NAILED this off-season from a hiring perspective. I was hard on him this year but what he’s been able to do in addressing major issues has been fun to watch. Go Apps

Don't ever question my knowledge.
Very difficult day for the Watts family and Lance Ware. But Clark made the best decision for App State Football and his young quarterbacks.

Difficult because they didn't get the promotions they were expecting?DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 8:11 pmDon't ever question my knowledge.

Re: Here we go again...Looks like the OC is out
Every now and then some coaching positions pop up that don't seem to make sense- passing game coordinator for example. What exactly is that? In my mind the more complex you make it the worse it can get during a game. We obviously need much more than the up the gut run plays but it's also great to see a gadget every now and then. Is vanilla a product of a conservative head coach or more of limitations of the offensive personnel?

You are so right, we do need more up the gut plays.

So was Ware to backfill the TE or QB coach position if Watts was OC?DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 8:11 pmDon't ever question my knowledge.

I tell my children, the best way to move up in the world is to relocate often and early. Once you get the right title then you can come back home as that title but don't wait on the home town to bestow the title on you....it can be a long wait.

I get Watts being caught off guard due to not getting the OC job, but curious what Ware was expecting in terms of promotion or is he just not satisfied with his current gig?

Perhaps he knows more and I'm sure Moose does but I was under the impression that when Ware came he wanted to eventually shift in an on field position coach role. I wonder if that is still true and if not getting one this time would cause him to actually leave?

Makes sense. Hope they both stick around to see the return of Appstate Football to the championship game.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 1:25 pmPerhaps he knows more and I'm sure Moose does but I was under the impression that when Ware came he wanted to eventually shift in an on field position coach role. I mean, I get it. But, at least he is probably still making more than he did at Shelby. Its kind of a hard transition, because coaches like that move into TE roles and we have only been hiring for pretty critical pieces currently. I dont think Clark can afford someone who requires a learning curve this year.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 1:25 pmPerhaps he knows more and I'm sure Moose does but I was under the impression that when Ware came he wanted to eventually shift in an on field position coach role. Re: Here we go again...Looks like the OC is out
Lance is getting close to state retirement after all his years as a HS teacher/coach. Not sure he would leave unless it was for another state position. I'm not sure what he should expect from Shawn since it was Drink who brought him on board. I think he's in a pretty good position. He gets input into decisions without some of the pressure for performance. I'm not sure what his pay is but I would guess it's more than a teacher/coach. I would love to talk to him about it or hear from someone who has.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 1:25 pmPerhaps he knows more and I'm sure Moose does but I was under the impression that when Ware came he wanted to eventually shift in an on field position coach role. I think that is why he had to go with Ponce but I think he values those guys heavily and wants to retain them. I sure hope egos and hurt feelings can be put aside. We need them to stay.boonetown1 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 1:35 pmI mean, I get it. But, at least he is probably still making more than he did at Shelby. Re: Here we go again...Looks like the OC is out
To clarify the Watts and Ware being upset:
If Watts gets promoted to OC, major job title for his professional growth and big time salary increase for him and his family.
If that above happens, Ware most likely gets to be the TE coach, positional coach and therefore a more professional title and pay increase as well..
So now do you understand why those guys and families may be having a difficult time...... this is more than just being a supervisor at your local Burke County factory - not there is anything wrong with that.

Re: Here we go again...Looks like the OC is out
I think most of us understand why those guys might be disappointed, and I hope Watts gets his shot at some point (here at App). I don't know much about Ware, but everything I've heard is that he's a great guy. This was a critical hire for Clark though and I don't think the situation was right to take a flyer on an inexperienced OC. Hopefully, some of that increased salary pool gets shared with these talented coaches so that we can keep them here at App.

Might not be a bad idea to leave it alone. Comments about them and how they feel really are not helpful on a public board. Leave that kind of thing to " The View".
