DC Tabscott into Transfer Portal

Unread post by 87ASUgrad » Mon Jan 09, 2023 5:43 pm

QB DC Tabscott posted on Twitters that he has entered the transfer portal. Hate to see him go. Seemed like a great kid with a lot of promise.

Well if he wasn’t going to play here then I don’t blame him and wish him luck.

I hope we don’t yank his scholarship for next year now

Sure he realized that he was never going to be the starter here.
Seems like a high quality young man.
I wish him the very best over the next three years and beyond.

Serious question: Assuming that he has done what has been asked of him within the program and been a good teammate:

Would our coaches help him find a place? Possibly at an FCS program?

That could be one way to work the portal Farm players coming out of FCS and help place players who may be better suited at that level.

I always wondered why some pretty good (not necessarily great) high school QB's go to schools where they really aren't going to play or if they play it will be maybe one year. I know as a competitor they all believe they will take the job but usually the writing is on the wall pretty quickly. Now with the portal no marginal QB wants to stick around.

I actually had a friend who walked on the football team at App instead of taking scholarships from Western and Guilford. He said “I’d rather ride the bench with a winner than play with a loser.”

I think this happens some. Just like how if you are a good employee, and your boss is a decent person, they’ll gladly give you a good recommendation when you want to work somewhere else.

He's one of our highest rated recruits ever. He didn't expect to come here to not play. He just got beat out.

Good point. In reality there are a couple of positions where a backup or even third on the depth chart gets little to know play- QB, punter, kicker (unless one kicks off and one does place kicks), long snapper. Most defensive positions lend opportunities for depth guys to play, same for running backs and receivers. Short of injuries a good backup QB might never see the field.

That’s not cool. The kid seems to have given his all while here. Doesn’t deserve that comment.

Tabscott and Shuler would have made a helluva QB. Tabscott had the arm talent but couldn’t get the game to slow down. Shuler had the mental game but didn’t have the arm talent.

Just curious because I have no idea but what are those assessments based on? Neither of them played.
