We really don't have much in common with each other other than our football success.I see Marsha and, now JMU as bigger rivals frankly.I am probably in the minority , but I believe that will change.

Re: Prediction for the Sunbelt bowl season!!!!!!!
JMU will be the team that pushes us to be better. A big percentage of the conference will but as far as an all around polished university that is growing. I would think App, JMU are the fastest growing university in the conference. I like our rivalry with Georgia Southern and Marshall but I hope we hook our long term wagon to JMU.
We are going to have to catch them budget wise to keep up with them. It is going to take the UNC board to start funding AppState appropriately.

Good thing Western Kentucky isn't in the Sun Belt.

One loss by the Western runner up and the Belt is over-rated? I don't think so. I don't think our peak was as high as expected this year, but the Belt still stands head and shoulders above CUSA as a football conference.

This has a WKU relation as to why they may have been doing so well. Our buddy SS was smart enough to recognize this.

Agree. At the very least the current record including bowl games played to date show the Sunbelt 6-4 against CUSA, which rates the Sunbelt ahead of them head-to-head. Best to wait until all bowl games are complete to fully judge the Sunbelt.

WKU was a better bowl team than anyone I saw in the Sunbelt this and last year.UTSA beat them selves against Troy .Top to bottom our league seems stronger .Not at the top , for now anyway.

I do wonder if their offense is difficult to plan for in one game scenario. Seems they lose 5 games a year

Troy beat them with a signature Troy performance. I wouldn’t use one game (that’s on early signing day) to judge either team.

Watching the Camellia Bowl and listening to the announcer constantly harping on how The Stink steamrolled our defense.

They need to get a clue, everyone this season was involved in pulling a train on our D. No big accomplishment for The Gumroots.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 12:37 pmWatching the Camellia Bowl and listening to the announcer constantly harping on how The Stink steamrolled our defense.

Re: Prediction for the Sunbelt bowl season!!!!!!!
CUSA went 3-3 in bowls and the SBC went 3-4. Also worth noting the conference holistically only played one team with more than seven wins - UTSA - which Troy won. But otherwise very mediocre G5 competition.
It’s fair to say we weren’t a very strong conference this year. Which makes our conference record all the more disappointing.

The bowls are ruint and nobody cares because you don’t know who is going to be on your roster at game time.

Re: Prediction for the Sunbelt bowl season!!!!!!!
The bowls, outside of CFP, at this point are merely opportunities for teams and fans to go have fun and celebrate their seasons at some destination. I always want us to win but trying to use them to determine who is better than the other across all of FBS is not possible with the wide range of matchups and the number of players opting out. So they are what they are and not a good metric for determining end of season rankings.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 11:39 pmThe bowls are ruint and nobody cares because you don’t know who is going to be on your roster at game time.

Re: Prediction for the Sunbelt bowl season!!!!!!!
I hope it ends up being a 12 team FBS Championship playoff and an NIT 12 team playoff.
FBS Playoff being the top 6 conference championship and 6 at large teams.
My real want is the NIT tournament. I want the Next 4 conference champions and All Division champions or 2nd place team of non-division conferences not making the FBS playoff. I hope for real games against the p5 teams for a chance to prove we belong. The g5 conference champions will play some tough games against the other teams.
This year I think it would have been
Troy
Fresno State
Toledo
UTSA
Purdue
Texas
UNC
UCF or Cincinnati
Washington
Oregon
LSU
Mississippi or Mississipi St. or SouthCarolina or Pittsburg for number 12
The games would maybe matter to some. Or maybe just the 13 - 25 of the CFP list in the NIT tournament.
