Given all the other G5 options, why would a solid portal kid come to App at this point? It's a serious question.
I mean why wouldn't they? Yes APP was 6-6 ( one "bad" year ) but they garnished ALOT of national attention despite the record. GD was here/most players would love to play in that atmosphere - If you are a defensive player following just a little bit this year of the struggles on defense you are salivating for a chance to prove yourself IMO. Obviously the notion that the locker room was "lost" was WAY overblown (just look at our TP). The mountain is still a top 7 G5 place to play.
But play would you rather, and be honest. App or Cincinnati? App or Houston? App or CFU? App or SMU? App or S. Florida? And I hate it, but App or JMU?

Can you give me a reason why (from a football perspective) other than Cincy or maybe Houston why APP isn't as an appealing choice when it comes to G5 schools?

What reasoning to you have to think that they wouldn’t? Serious question.

Sounds like you are using school colors as a choice. Cincinnati campus is a dump. JMU uses streamers, bugs are bigger than birds in FLA, Dallas or Houston in the summer????

Well, me personally, I’m a mountain guy. And I don’t know what CFU is, but FU to those other locations. But I understand your point (except for JMU). However some guys who played where the town revolved around their high school team would feel more at home in Boone.

A lot of this comes down to simple numbers. There are what, 131 D1 FBS schools? A majority of the QB's specifically who hit the Portal are backups at their current school. If half or more of these schools are set at QB (and many at backup as well) the 60ish QB's don't all have top landing spots. Alabama and Georgia aren't salivating over the idea of bringing in the backup from Iowa or some other middling P5.

Hearing K-Robb lobbying for UCF QB. If true and if Burger is our guy, K-Robb might be eliminating himself as a top target.

Tony Grimes, former 5 ⭐ with Heels, hitting the portal...along with Cam Kelly (played significant minutes) ....NIL must not pay enough on the hill.

App should be an attractive destination for a solid player who wanting playing time. App is a successful program with tradition and great fan support and we had one bad year which means more opportunity to jump in and make a name for yourself if you are able. Maybe our NIL deals aren't as good as some others. I really don't know how we compare to other G5 schools or other SunBelt schools.

No thanks. Got beat out by John Rhys Plumlee, an SEC outfielder transferred to ucf to play qb.

There's also a system fit, coaching relationships and seeing who they get to play with, and some players want to be closer to home/family. Why did Chase Brice, Kaedin Robinson, Corey Sutton and others choose to transfer to App? Some players also want to get out of the big city and all that comes with it. And, just because you go into the portal, doesn't mean you get an offer anywhere you want to play. There's still only 85 scholarships at each program.

One .500 season and we're not an attractive place to play? Talk about low self-esteem.....

I really don't mean this as a dig but have you every left North Carolina? Appalachian has the most beautiful campus outside of SMU on your list and the best game day experience. Shawn Clark said it best after the Coastal and Marshall wins last year when he said we have the best G5 gameday experience. Period.

1. Cincy has brandname appeal but the city isn't that great and the campus is just whatever. Its also southern Ohio and as TrashcanPaul says "Ohio Sucks"
2. Houston as a city SUCKS. Its a commuter school much like UNCC and the city doesn't care about it.
3. S Florida is in the worst part of Tamp and nowhere near the water...they don't have a stadium and its a commuter school.
4. CFU?...I assume you mean UCF...largest university in the country by enrollment but thats also its problem...its not your typical undergrad experience. Good brand name right now but its not scenic and you're in Orlando, not the coast
5. As a Dallas resident I can say that SMU has a lot going for it but outside of having a beautiful stadium the game day experience is terrible, nobody and I mean NOBODY goes to the games, not even the students.
6. JMU...Dude please...

Most dudes want to play and go to the League, destination doesn’t matter, the other 2 do. If someone thought their best chance of going to the NFL was Wake Tech, they would go. Good for us, we put dudes in; the atmosphere is a huge plus, but again, what coaches and schemes help them get paid will always be #1.

Lupie’s! Knew it wasn’t right when I typed it out. Maybe we can open a satellite location in Boone!

You have quite obviously never seen John Rhys Plumlee play. Dude is a freak athlete. He may not be the best QB, but he can do it all. That's why he played multiple positions in baseball AND football for an SEC school. I'm not surprised he gets more playing time than the guy who is transferring.
