I have an example, direct from a high level player:
During last years Pro Day, he apparently wasn't as supportive as he should of been (Stayed in his office during workouts, etc). And the players were like, wtf???
Yes, the pro day thing was weird... And that definitely put a sour taste in the seniors mouth. Not sure what that was about.

But, he never lost the team.. He just enforced rules finally and the ones that were constantly breaking them didn't like it.
A head coach has to balance personable connection with the players and assistants along with being a disciplinarian. In short, Clark struggled with that balance and his ability to communicate effectively seemed to deteriorate. He had a locker room full of super seniors and mismanaged the locker room dynamics. I imagine it was hard for coaches with the COVID SS situations already, especially when guys technically already graduated.
*this is just my observations from the exposure I had to the team and from things I heard. I'll say this again, I really like Shawn as a man and think he's a great guy.

This talk about proday seems exaggerated and stale.

The best litmus test today will be the portal and who enters it. Texas St. and others are already getting hit hard.

So are we basically to the character assassination phase on this board now? I don’t know SC but this is getting ridiculous.
Seattleapp,
It looks like it's true.

I stand corrected! I’m sorry that happened. I’m sorry all of this is swirling around to be honest. My only caveat is none of us knows what was going on that day. That’s not me shilling for anyone. It’s me saying who knows what SC had going on. Truthfully I don’t see what purpose posts like that serve a year later

The worst thing we can do is argue among ourselves. For the team and potential recruits we need to stand together in support. Dr Everts LOVES her football team. Mr. Gillian knows his job and we are fortunate to be keeping him. Shawn is a Mountaineer's, Mountaineer! They know what to do and how to do it. Give them some room.

A question I have ( with no knowledge thereof)....Does SC have the respect of the other coaches and players?

Players, yes. Most coaches. There will be more staffing changes though.

Ok, that's the first time I have ever seen the portal link.... that is cool to be able to look at other schools (and ours) and see transfers and such through the years and who is in it now.

With Jamey Chadwell leaving CCU for USF (talk about a lateral move), I wonder who will leave that program. JMU and GaSo will be the toughest comp next season in the East imo. Marshall will be up there if their QB makes a lot of improvement but they will be losing a lot on defense.

So here is my take on the whole fire Clark don't fire Clark affair. I am firmly still on the fence some things I just cant stand, others I like and give me hope, recent changes helped this. With that said I must say I'm troubled thinking of the following problem for days now.

When looking at the future 12 team NCAA playoff that now is set to start in 2024 just two seasons from now. First I do not think the 12 team set up will last long and a move for separation will come from SEC B1G ACC B12 before we know it. App State may have the narrowest window for making a good case to be thrown a lifeline into the next upper crust system. I may be dreaming but here me out.

We know, because we lived it for many years the excitement generated by a real playoff especially the more you advance. The rest of the college football world is about to catch fire with this once it begins. If the Sunbelt is the highest ranked G5 conference(which I believe it will be by then) the champ would be IN. Imagine if App could be that team, a few of the first years it would be magical? I can. Now imagine if we could advance to the qtrs. or even semis a few times in front of the whole nation(holy cow) or god forbid more? If you can dream this scenario as well the question I pose to us all is this.

Is Coach Clark is the man you see in these next few short years taking us there? Y/N

If yes? great lets do this thing!!!

If no? what do we do different to accomplish the above? I'll leave that up to debate.

Either way I believe ASU is the school, the team, "the little guy", the nations underdog, to make this happen, for that we must All of us, give our all! This coming playoff is our one shot IMHO do it.

It is a good question and one I have pondered myself. I worry that we may get too far behind the 8 ball to capitalize on the CFB Playoff change in the next 2-3 years. Coaches will have to develop just as much as the players this spring/summer. If Clark and Co. fail to show improvement then we can cut ties next season. I think he can figure it out this year though with new energy, coaching and leaders.

I’m trying to figure out how a 12 team playoff would work? 12 down to 6, 6 down to 3. I’m sure I’m missing something. Are the top 4 seeds going to get a bye week?

Well, looks like “to fire or not to fire” is a moot point at this juncture. Whether we like it or not we now gotta give Coach Clark one more year and I’m now of the opinion two years. That gives time for the changes to fully take affect. Of course if the changes are not effective then after two more years we’ll REALLY be in a mess.
