it is shocking to see the fall that the AAC and MWC have had and will have when the top teams officially leave. Utah State finished in the top 25 last year and is now struggling after returning so many players. Boise has struggled since the COVID season. ULL looks to be in real trouble. CCU will be back to nothing once McCall and Chadwell leave. Really makes you take a step back and appreciate the continued success we have had. Coach Clark is the consistent leader we needed at a time full of turbulence.

App’s chance at the top 25 this year went out the window when that JMU egg was laid.

Any coach that has been able to maintain or grow in the past three seasons, 20-22, is a coach worth keeping.

Hopefully Coastal is ranked again when we play them, landing another "top 25" win and winning out could put us near the 25 again. Would definitely need the AAC teams to just beat up on one another as well. Still a longshot

For rankings we need JMU to look good but for a conference championship we need to lose at least 2 games. I’m pulling for the conference championship.

Yep, if we had to lose a conference game, that was the one to lose.

For JMU to win out and then we win conference would feel like a hollow victory wouldn’t it?

Perhaps I’m mistaken, but don’t think JMU is eligible to play in conference championship game as it is their FCS transition year. If that’s the case, we want them to beat everyone in the east.

I’d say winning off a game changing botched call, like phantom punt returner interference on a punt returner lost fumble, should feel like a hollow victory.

It will be interesting to see what happens if JMU runs the table then gets no conf championship plus no bowl bid. Not saying they will not saying we would win out either. Going to be an interesting rest of season from here on out in the Sunbelt.

Not in the least. We'd be champions. JMU had not played our strength of schedule and had a bye week ahead of us so they were rested and not banged up like we were. I'll be surprised if they win out.

Agree it was the most crucial non-call of the game and who knows, should we have the ball and score, many of us would be a lot more satisfied with our record, but JMU didn't score all those comeback points off that 1 play, however there are enough grounds for a malpractice case against our decision making after the half.

It is too early and a lot can change because we could lose a game or two and we need other teams like A&M and UNC to go to bowls along with a strong finish by JMU, CCU, and USA but it is possible the league could finish with 2 or 3 ranked teams and 1 receiving votes.

Entering the Sun Belt title game this could be the records of the top 5 Sun Belt teams (I'm giving JMU a win over CCU because CCU has the FBS brand name now and could take a loss if to a ranked team):

App- 10-2 (Losses to UNC and JMU, wins over CCU and A&M)
CCU- 11-1 (Wins over JMU and Virginia, loss to App)
JMU- 11-0 (Wins over App, CCU, and Louisville)
South Alabama- 11-1 (Loss to UCLA, wins over Troy, Louisiana, and Louisiana Tech)

Then App beats USA to go 11-2 and they are 11-2.

If this happens, I would put JMU in the 15-18 range, App 19-23, CCU- 25-30, and USA RV as well.

If we had beat JMU I would have had JMU win out instead of us in this scenario. You could make a strong case for 3 to be ranked and 1 receiving votes.

If JMU wins out and we lose to CCU then I would say USA winning the title over a 11-1 CCU would help because USA would then finish ranked and CCU would be receiving votes. JMU would be ranked and we might just receive a few votes then.

What do you guys think of that scenario?

It's called losing the battle but winning the war.

Keep digging. Nobody's going to give it to us for being App State. We got to go win it.

This is exactly EXACTLY what we signed up for when Karl Benson, Doug Gillin, and now Keith Gill built the Sun Belt East to our liking. Strong regional rivals that make every week a battle and help our division and our conference receive national praise. Even though they may be bitter and humbling at times, enjoy the fruits of that labor.
