If we can win out and go through another murder's row against CCU, Marshall, ODU, and GS followed by a win vs. either Troy or USA in the championship game I'd hang a banner.

IF JMU wins out as well, they deserve to be champions and all that goes with that. The rule is outdated.

I didn’t realize that, not sure how I feel about having them win out and then us play in the championship. I may have to pull for them to self destruct. I really don’t think they will. Long way from it but I just want to have a December game at The Rock.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 5:28 pmPerhaps I’m mistaken, but don’t think JMU is eligible to play in conference championship game as it is their FCS transition year. If that’s the case, we want them to beat everyone in the east.

Any Given Saturday.
Although, unless something catastrophic happens, it's not far fetched to think JMU wins out (at least in conference play) with the possibility of losing at Louisville.
Wouldn't mind them losing a conference game or two just to avoid the optics to come later.

Re: CBS College Football Rankings
Seems like the definition of an academic argument given that JMU has a LONG ways to go before winning out. They still have to play GS, Marshall, Old Dominion, GSU, and Coastal. They have a favorable schedule in terms of playing the toughest ones at home, but they have a lot of obstacles to overcome.....as do we.
Right or wrong though, someone from the East will play in the CCG game and it isn't going to be JMU.

My high school team won a district championship when the team that beat us was ruled ineligible for the postseason because of a stupid administrative oversight. We didn't hang the banner.TheMoody1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 10:19 amEasy to say when it is not your sweat and tears. Yeah, I was being generous.
Satt is already on thin ice. Add in an entirely possible loss to JMU and he's gone.

My guess is that his seat is as hot as Harsin's.

Re: CBS College Football Rankings
It would be a hoot if James Madison beat them on the 5th. It would make Coach Satt homesick. Well then, there is the $$$$ after all. Money makes losing more palatable.

Re: CBS College Football Rankings
UVA, Pitt, Wake, JMU, Clemson, NCSU, and Kentucky remain for Satt. That will likely be the end of his run. I don't see a path to bowl eligibility (four more wins) and him being rumored to other schools didn't sit well with the fanbase last year. I don't see them firing him early unless he loses to UVA this week and JMU.
He'll be $15m richer than he would have been here and he'll get picked up as an OC for a low level P5/high level G5 program in two years.
I wish he would have stayed, but understand why he did it. Every great coach wants to challenge themselves and push their limits.

Re: CBS College Football Rankings
Let me clarify my "hollow" statement since some don't get what I meant.
1) IF we run the table and win Championship, that will be a HUGE accomplishment and something we will be proud of, regardless of what JMU does. This is not a hollow part.
2) IF JMU runs the table, which will include beating us, that will be a HUGE accomplishment.
IF both of the above occur, my point is, and I know the existing rule, but I would feel like another team did the same as us AND beat us head to head and we were getting the credit "for the east division". That is the hollow part.
That all being said, there is A LOT of football to be played and I don't think both of the above will come to fruition. In addition, for us to win the SBC, we would have to ALSO win the Championship Game which would be a differentiator for the conference championship ring. This would not be a hollow feeling.

Re: CBS College Football Rankings
I get your point but I don't see it any less hollow then some of the conference titles we already won. Some of our conference titles have been "co" even though the team that shared the title with us beat us head to head. That was because the conference rules in those years allowed the "co" even with head to head loss, just like the conference rules this year do NOT allow a JMU title. Therefore under the rules it would rightfully be ours and I would not feel it is hollow. Please don't ask for what specific years I am speaking of with our "co" titles, I just remember it happened and don't really want to research when it happened (pretty sure it was SoCon times with multiple "co" champions). If I am wrong, I am sure I will quickly be corrected.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 11:58 amLet me clarify my "hollow" statement since some don't get what I meant.

His over/under for the remainder of the season is 1 game with that schedule.
Hypothetical question for the day. If SC leaves for greener patures and SS is relieved of his current duties, would you guys take SS back?

Re: CBS College Football Rankings
Considering that three of that four are on the road, I would not be shy about claiming the title. Yes, JMU would have the right to talk some smack if they go unblemished in conference play, but they don't face that kind of gauntlet.

Re: CBS College Football Rankings
Nor did they face two P5s and Troy leading up to our game. Scheduling plays a big role in results when the teams are within a couple of scores of each other.
