Oh great, another “all of our goals are still achievable” from our skipper. The same thing he’s promised this entire time.

22 points allowed in a little over a quarter…AppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:50 pmSo giving the offense two more possessions and giving up only 3 points in the first half didn't give them a better chance to win? You didn't listen all the way then. The defense gave us a chance to win because of the two early turnovers.
Defense also only have up 25 points since JMU had a pick six.
28 > 25
Offense didn't score for 75% of the game. Two of the scores came on a short field because of defense.
If you want to put it on the defense, go ahead. But this game specifically was 100% to blame on offense. Defense did more than enough to win the game.
That should be more than enough to win a game. Offense is 100% to blame. Defense was the reason it wasn't a blowout.

Re: El Cid discussion
I’ll just agree to disagree on this one. I wholeheartedly agree that offense is the reason we lost the game. But I disagree with the statement our defense gave us a chance to win. We could not stop their run (almost 4 yds per carry). We could not stop the pass. We could not contain the QB. We could not stop them on 4th down (50% conversion). First half, we did. Second half their offense made adjustments and our D got pushed around.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:50 pmSo giving the offense two more possessions and giving up only 3 points in the first half didn't give them a better chance to win? And on the field for a little more than 75% of that time frame.... 15 of which were due to short fields because of a blown call and the pick (my bad for thinking it was a pick 6).yosef69 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 2:04 pm22 points allowed in a little over a quarter…AppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:50 pmSo giving the offense two more possessions and giving up only 3 points in the first half didn't give them a better chance to win? Look, the defense did not play well in the second half. Not saying they did. But they did more than enough to allow us to win the game.

Nice attempt at starting a thread to discuss the next game- Citadel. Regurgitation of last Saturday, bashing coaches and overall play. It's over fellas.

Re: El Cid discussion
I, for one, look forward to destroying the Citadel once again.
I remember in, I think 2010, a friend’s sister was visiting for Family Weekend. She went to Western Carolina. She took a picture of the scoreboard when Citadel scored first to go up 7-0. App then scored 39 unanswered points. That was a lot of fun.

Then only way to get over the horror of Saturday is to sandpaper some ass in the next 4 games. We have little to gain other than preparing ourselves for the last 4, and probably won’t feel better about this team until they’re in the last 3rd of the season.

Re: El Cid discussion
The true freshman get 4 free games. This is the week that Cam & Nate get to recover and we let Roberts play. Maybe he can run one of this 300 yard high school games. J/K. Chase should sit after the 1st quarter and get some reps from the #2-#4 QBs. We should be 50-60 point favs this weekend, maybe even more. Lets rest our starters and get some quality back ups game time reps. Roberts is the one I want to see the most. We also got a stud on the d-line that should get some playing time Saturday. He and Roberts played against each other in the state championship game, now lets see them play together Saturday. Go App!!!

Not sure if it's been mentioned but former App Peyton Derrick is the QB at Citadel.

Re: El Cid discussion
I think a convincing victory without injuries would be a nice confidence boost for the team. It’s been 4 tough games.
Citadel is never an easy out and the triple option poses some unique problems for our defense to address. But we should win comfortably here.

Re: El Cid discussion
I assume The Citadel awards at least 90% of allowable scholarships so this game can count towards bowl eligibility. Robert Morris is not going to count since that is the 2nd FCS game, though as a Big South team I assume that would be true as well as far as scholarships..
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

They aren't very good despite the coach spin .Mercer shut them out and Campbell dominated them.We should win by a lot.

I just hope that the backup QB's are allowed to throw. If the weather is crappy it might only be a 30-7 type game

He was pretty bad from what I remember. Makes sense to have gone to an FCS school. One that runs the TO nonetheless.CornCobPipes wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 5:00 pmNot sure if it's been mentioned but former App Peyton Derrick is the QB at Citadel.

Re: El Cid discussion
He threw a dime against Penn State to keep the drive going when Zac went down. He was ahead of Huesman on the depth chart for at least 1.5 seasons. He wasn't bad at all. He is just more of a dual threat QB with a run first mentality.ASU-FTW wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 9:57 pmHe was pretty bad from what I remember. Makes sense to have gone to an FCS school. The reason he's QB at Citadel is because he was a grad assistant. The QBs got hurt and he had his Covid year still available (he transferred and started at Wofford) so coach asked him to run practice as QB until QBs healed. He impressed, they gave him scholarship, and the rest is history.

Re: El Cid discussion
Regardless of our current issues, The Citadel should be no threat to us. Not taking them lightly.....just looking at numbers and personnel. I suspect we will come out with a huge chip on the shoulder and obliterate El Cid.
