WAY TOO EARLY Bowl Projections but would be so awesome
Saw this on CBS Sports and it would be crazy. OF COURSE there's a lot of football to be played. But damn:

Projecting App vs Southern Cal in the Cotton Bowl on Jan 2nd...I love just seeing us in the conversation. Hope the players don't see this though.

We win out and we’re absolutely the top ranked G5, and have the best win. That plus all the love we’re getting means we’d absolutely get the NY6 bowl.
Now that requires us to win every game from here to the end in the SBC, which we’ve never done before, so idk how to feel about it. Sure is fun to think about.

I'm more worried about beating James Madison first!

Same here! They are not some FCS team. I believe they are better than Troy. We have to play better or JMU could beat us by 10 but if we can fix some things in the secondary we can be okay.
I almost picked us to win by a field goal over Troy with the thought we get a scare and rebound with a 7-10 point win over JMU. With our injuries I’m not sure what to think. This JMU game could go either way.
The SBC East is going to be brutal every week.

This is why we moved up no ifs ands or buts. Just have to take care of business!

Yeah Schlabach has us in the Cotton against Ok St. We have to defend the short passing routes and tackle better if we want to win a championship. I’m not sure I’ve seen the target this big on our back ever!

These way too early projections are akin to eliminator pools especially for the G5 NY6 team.

If we win out (by some miracle) and those same teams are in contention for NY6 along with us, there's 0 chance things don't get reconfigured so it's us vs Michigan.
Penn State would go to the Rose.
App State vs Michigan in the Cotton bowl would outdraw the CFB playoffs. We'd be America's team. But more importantly from the NY6 perspective, it'd make gobs and gobs of money. From an entertainment perspective: App/Michigan or Bama/Georgia/Clemson/Oklahoma part __? It's not even close.

It would make for an awesome story line, but the tie-in specific spots aren't really negotiable.app_gorilla wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 1:39 pmIf we win out (by some miracle) and those same teams are in contention for NY6 along with us, there's 0 chance things don't get reconfigured so it's us vs Michigan.

The Rose automatically gets the B1G champ or the highest ranked B1G team if the champ is in the playoffs. The Orange bowl is hurdle #2 as they take the highest available team from the B1G/SEC/ND after the champ slots are filled. It's theoretically possible but you'd need Michigan to be in the at-large range so they don't have to fill an autobid somewhere else.

This one is completely up to us now. With all the hype ESPN has heaped on they would surly give us the NY6 game. Just win baby.

Yah in my opinion the Rose takes Penn State in this situation and the Cotton makes whatever moves they have to to ensure Michigan remains on the board. There's just too much money on the table not to.citroknight wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 1:59 pmIt would make for an awesome story line, but the tie-in specific spots aren't really negotiable.app_gorilla wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 1:39 pmIf we win out (by some miracle) and those same teams are in contention for NY6 along with us, there's 0 chance things don't get reconfigured so it's us vs Michigan.

I think the biggest block to this happening is the relative unlikelihood we can escape the SunBelt unbeaten. Michigan/OSU/PSU will be there.
In any event, I'll be over the moon if we're entertaining this seriously two months from now.

College football is the greatest game in the world. But it's built on a mountain of greed and shady deals.
